How is your country dealing with the virus and are you happy with them?

Graylight · 51-55, F
I'm not happy at all with the US response.

Abysmal preparation aside, we have a president so intent of laying blame and making up "clever" nicknames that he can barely keep track of the lies he tells.

We continue to fight the virus spread state by state as if a virus respected borders. We'll "wait" to see what happens in the East before we decide what to do in FL, as is India, China, Italy and Spain have not made that abundantly clear.

The states that do have shelter-at-home suggestions and mandates are virtually useless if they're written like this state's. Enormous swamps of infection still keep their doors open, from big box stores to landscapers, cosmetic surgeons, tire stores, clothing stores, any store that sells household items, services, clothing or other goods. Parks. Spring Break. Walmarts and Targets. Daycare centers. Cleaners. And a governor who will not twitch unless Trump commands it. You name it. The infection spread containment here is ZERO.

And people are praying to the altar of antibiotic gel rather than the much more effective and humble bar of soap.

We'll survivie this latest crisis, but it will be in spite of ourselves.

Want to keep playing?

No. The handling of the situation has been and should be politicized. The virus itself is not. It can't be, even if you believe it. IT IS A VIRUS.

@Graylight You're just as bad as the fox newsers.🤦‍♂️

You misspelled "Trump Pandemic". You're welcome.

The US has dragged its feet for at least like a month on its virus response. Our President and various other leaders downplayed the virus in the beginning. They only started leveraging the power of the Defense Production Act -- which allows the gov't to force companies to build certain things -- a few days ago to build respirators. It should've been done like a month ago, and it should've been done to numerous companies instead of just GM. We need more respirators sooner.

And also, the bailout bill the gov't has passed is garbo. It only gives paid sick leave to workers in companies with 50-500 workers, but the virus doesn't gaf about the size of your company. 🤦‍♂️ We should've locked down non-essential travel to and from major cities by now, but we're barely even talking about it. And our preparedness level is just embarrassing; we shouldn't be sourcing so many damn medical supplies from the PRC.

Also, continuing the medical sanctions on Iran is absolutely unconscionable, as is trying to buy a vaccine for exclusive US use.

It's not all bad. Most states are locked down right now in some capacity and the CDC did receive a nice budget bump when things started getting serious. And for all of the President's flaws, he's one of the best at banning travel to and from other countries.

Our nhs is doing a fantastic job and besides putting their lives at risk, they are working so hard....until we reach our peak around third week in April and then we see if those getting affected are getting less and fewer dying, then we will know
whowasthatmaskedman · 70-79, M
In the scheme of things our govt has done rather well (so far) After a couple of days differing our PM stepped up and started issuing orders, got all the States acting as one and acted early. Of course we have the knuckle draggers who went to beaches and clubs. But the govt stepped on all that. And we test 20 times the population (per capita) America do and trace them back to the source whereever possible. The hospitals have all be coordinated and are prepared. Any arrivals from overseas are being isolated in hotels for 2 weeks and guarded. And the message is out, STAY HOME! So hopefully we will be culling the stupid. Most business (apart from essentials are closed.
In the economy side, Businesses and the unemployed are getting help There are delays, but its working. Banks and landlords are being bullied by the govt to cooperate with those in need and money is flowing into peoples accounts, while support charaties are getting a boost.
Best of all we are being INFORMED. It really is sickening to watch the US leadership on this. We are being told over and over, this is going to take at least 6 months.

I’m in the U.S. I’m thankful that we still have Dr. Fauci and Gov. Cuomo. My state’s governor and senators are doing well, too.

I think here, a lot of it depends on the governor, the Senators/Members of Congress, and the state government.
Burnley123 · 41-45, M
@SmartKat Not mentioning that other guy in charge? 😬
CountScrofula · 41-45, M
Canada's is good but late. If we had done this a month earlier we wouldn't see any exponential growth.
Burnley123 · 41-45, M
@CountScrofula I think Canada is in the top tier of western nations handling this. The UK is in a relegation dog fight because of our lazy head coach and crank assistant. America is Norwich City.
milkymum1 · 31-35, F
@Burnley123 more like the amateur league coach!!
Nyloncapes · 61-69, M
Trying there best, I want to keep an eye on Sweden as they not doing hardly anything and everything open and people mixing
curiosi · 61-69, F
President is doing a great job, the problem is the idiots aren't listening.
milkymum1 · 31-35, F
@curiosi A great job, really it was fake news to start with and now with the highest infection rate in any country so that's not doing great is it!!
curiosi · 61-69, F
@milkymum1 OMG I am convinced I am totally wrong because a D BAG PERVERT said I was!
milkymum1 · 31-35, F
@curiosi WTF!!!!
One cool bit of news. Ontario has announced intentions to start prosecuting profiteering.
purplepen · 51-55, F
Terribly and i am unhappy.

🤗

Just look at it this way, when our future youngsters complain about how hard they have it, this is going to be our old person "back in my day" story moment.

It may be more of an American joke, since you guys don't get snow but basically the joke is older people saying things like... "Back in my day, I had to walk to school, in the snow, uphill both ways. My lunch was two baked potatoes that I had to carry to keep my hands warm."
milkymum1 · 31-35, F
@ViciDraco That's IF we ALL make it as let's face it our not so brave leaders don't care about us. Also in the UK we have the same saying as that but also, "wehn I was younger....", "many years ago why I was just a child......or a classic TV show where the saying is "during the war"

My country has done poorly. We have a president who would rather play favorites of which governor can get medical equipment for treating him nicely, politicians who are more concerned about money than people, and people who don’t heed warnings.
RodionRomanovitch · 56-60, M
They're doing everything they can , and we went the full lockdown route relatively early (which is being impeccably observed) , but the numbers are beginning to look frightening nevertheless ; 7500 new cases and 500 deaths just today. 😞
It's a bit of a mixed bag. This week is supposed to be crucial as in whether our healthcare system will be overrun in some provinces. My province is doing ok for now. Quebec is being slammed though.
The thing about the COVID response— you can objectively look at the data and see who has responded effectively. Johns Hopkins has a nice coronavirus dashboard. You can click on a country and see the cases as a function of time and the logarithm of the cases as a function of time. You can look at incremental increases as a function of time. You can see in an instant who has pulled out of exponential growth and who has not. Politics and whether one adores Trump or hates him is irrelevant. It’s empirical. We have had a long run of free fall exponential growth as we’ve winged and denied and pointed fingers. We’re just now BARELY pulling out of exponential growth.
It’s pathetic really. If there’s something we understand technically, it’s the epidemiology of a respiratory flu. We knew what to do. The current American political leadership downplayed it. Responded late. Regionally responses are slow and ineffective. Politicians in limited cases are still deniers. I think in part because any career public servant is presumed a political shill, even if they are epidemiologists in public health. In part because they were responding to optics, markets, and political liabilities.

IDK we have 3 dead
1300+ infected and the bodies will line the streets if we don't act
Burnley123 · 41-45, M
@Ingwe South Africa is gonna have problems now its im your cities. I wish you and your country the best.
purplepen · 51-55, F
The leaders are dealing with it pretty well but a lot of individuals are not.

They're doing what they can. It's not looking good rn though.

I agree with you. With the Trump Administration in command, your country could not be any better than he has already made it.

I agree with you. Trump is doing is absolute best at all times.[/c]
