Is this the calm before the storm?

I think things are about to get a lot worse.
Zaphod42 · 46-50, M
I’m sure it is. When the number of new cases and deaths from it begin to decline I’ll breath a sigh of relief, but for now I’m just waiting to see what happens.
Elessar · 26-30, M
@Burnley123 Not sure about our data, unless maybe you subtract Lombardy numbers from those. Our testing facilities may be overwhelmed as well. Even official sources have said the numbers might be largely underestimated. 😥
Burnley123 · 41-45, M
@Elessar The problem was that just before they locked down lombardy, loads of people went back to their home regions and took the virus with them. Our government copied your bad idea and spread it from London to our regions.
Elessar · 26-30, M
@Burnley123 We can only hope it won't spread fast elsewhere. 🤞 Testing a lot and isolating many potential positives here in Veneto seems to be helping as well, our regional curve is more linear - actually against WHO indications to only test symptomatic people.

They will, if we don't take this seriously. If we start abiding by social distancing rules, then the rate of growth will slow down.

In the short term, there will be more cases, because a lot of people have very mild, to no symptoms, and there aren't enough testing kits. I believe once testing is widely available, then this can be brought under control.

Public figures should behave like the rest of us, as well. Not sure what Prince Charles, was thinking, maintaining what seemed like a full social schedule.

pls don't say this..I hope it all goes back to normal and then vanish
Burnley123 · 41-45, M
@SW-User So do i. Whay i think and what i want are different things.
Things are only going to get worse as people hesitate. I am no fan of draconian responses under normal situations but alot of hesitation is happening because in the "west" in particular the ruling class are terrified of bad optics and that will get people killed. Also one thing nobody seems to even be talking about is how well are countries like Italy equipped to deal with massive amounts of bio waste safely including dead bodies. Many historical pandemics are often followed up with secondary outbreaks of things like cholera from improper disposal of bio waste and dead bodies. And if the Spanish flu is any indication sometimes these things can fade for a bit and create a false sense of security and then come back with a vengeance months later. This is especially worrying as corporate heads are leaning hard on politicians to send people back to work as quickly as possible to save the Dow Jones.

The real test is today. The sun came out.
Burnley123 · 41-45, M
@CheshireCatalyst We dont. The government should show crearivity in setting up local committees with council and business leaders to sort this stuff out. Its one of the things that might have to happen anyway in a month.
@Burnley123 How many households are there in the country? My sister cannot
get a delivery for 5 weeks.I use places that do not deliver. And the mimimum order
requirement is more than my monthly food bill.I can’t afford home delivery.
Burnley123 · 41-45, M
@TheSirfurryanimalWales I'm saying what should happen, not what i think will happen. Youd have to have coordinated recruitment and transfer supermarket checkout staff with their own cars to be drivers. The resources are there if govt was clear sited enough.

Yes, the opposite is true. My parents live in North blackpool and its 8 weeks for a delkvery there, in an area with lots of high risk peolpe.
ThePerfectUsername · 70-79, M
Zero food delivery slots available in the next three weeks where I live so the number of identical items you can purchase is being restricted in an effort to spread the load more evenly. The only obvious difficulty we have is that our fridge freezer only holds two weeks worth of supplies anyway. Something's got to give pretty soon or the old and infirm who've been isolating are going to be forced to go out shopping in person again. I'm not looking forward to that.

I believe it is the calm before the storm.

And the US is that horror-movie character who thinks they've killed the monster and then turns their back on it to celebrate victory while standing well within arm's reach.

I think things will be alright where I live. We don't use public transportation a lot, we mostly drive everywhere. So I think that social distancing and the quarantine will do alright here. But then again, maybe not. Idk
MrAboo · 36-40, M
In my bubble I thought things were improving. Perhaps just wishful thinking and a false sense of security from an significant increase in orders at work today
Burnley123 · 41-45, M
@MrAboo I dont know where you live but look at Italy and look at the Science. Its grim.

the wind's picking up.
beckyromero · 36-40, F
I fear you are correct.
NewBeginnings7790 · 41-45, F
Yes, they are
DragonSlayerr · 26-30, F
Uhh where was the calm? The storm has been here. It’s just that some people pretended it wasn’t there. The calm before the storm was when it was still in Wuhan.
Burnley123 · 41-45, M
@DragonSlayerr No this is a ripple.
DragonSlayerr · 26-30, F
@Burnley123 🤦🏼‍♀️ there’s no use
akindheart · 61-69, F
are you inthe US or London? i feel kind of isolated and have not seen the numbers lately but our president seems to feel optimistic. Where are we on the curve?
Burnley123 · 41-45, M
@akindheart Im in manchester, which is a major regional city in the UK. I used to live in London.

Our pm also sounds optimistic but there is panic behind his eyes. We locked down late so we will have bigger problems.
akindheart · 61-69, F
@Burnley123 you picked up on the panic too. i noticed it in the US. please be safe. i love the UK btw
