Audio Books

I used to love to read, I find it difficult to find time to read these days but I'm hooked on audio books, when I was working in my office I would listen on the drive in, now I'm working from home if I'm doing simple tasks I'll listen or if I'm washing dishes, walking the dog I listen. Do you think there is the same benefit to listening to a book as there is reading it?

I tend to remember things far better listening to them.. Do old school book readers look down on audio books or even ebooks? Interested to see what people thoughts are on this.
I have an audible account and when I do my commute, I listen to some books. Sometimes I combine reading and listening. If I can’t focus on reading , I switch to listening to the audiobook.
My husband is the same, everytime he drives, he just listen to audibook.

@BloviatingBuffoon I started with podcasts and then moved on to audio books. First one I tried I gave up on but then after more podcast listening re tried the book and have never looked back since.

I love to read and I also love audiobooks. audiobook have been great since I don’t have a lot of time for reading. I think the important thing is consuming the stories not how you do it honestly.

@Starchild1983 that's my feelings on it. If it weren't for audio books I wouldn't have had this entertainment for approx 2 years so surely that's a positive thing..
I've found well chosen narrators bring life and color to a good story line.
Welcome change over the drone of dialogue in your own head.

You retain material better in listening, I find. Very convenient for driving, biking, or destressing task free.

Like others, audiobook was a natural transition from podcast.
I love books and I love audiobooks. The determining factor for me is the performer who reads the book.

I highly recommend "Low Men in Yellow Coats" by Stephen King, read by William Hurt, who absolutely knocks it out of the park. (It's one of the stories from Hearts in Atlantis)

I've tried them, but it doesn't stick in. But I am a visual learner so maybe that's why

I used to listen to audiobooks when I had a commute. I love to read, and I find myself reading books more than listening to them now. I think I remember the story whether reading or listening. I'm not an auditory learner, though, so if it's something I need to learn, I retain it better if I read it.

@ChampagneOnIce in my latter years I've definitely found myself retaining information better audio wise rather than reading. Basically I'm lazy 🤣
i would love to have all of the Game of thrones books on tape...that would be cool. i only read in the bathroom right now because i think my eyes are too old now.
@SW-User i read the Hobbit and the Lord of the Rings trilogy when i was 18 and 19 and 21 and 22. it took me a while
