I got blamed for something I didn't do at work. A customer was very rude to me and I couldn't keep pretending it was okay.

I told him I'll do and say what I want when I'm treated poorly. This is after him cussing me and calling me names. He was in the wrong and there's no way I could of done anything differently to appease him. The manager that "fixed" it didn't even do anything different than I did except give them a discount to make up for my attitude.

Now I'm in the hot seat and waiting to hear if he called me in. Yeah I had an attitude. I'm tired of being treated like crap. I'm tired of being nice to people who treat others like crap. I don't want to lose my job, I need the money. But part of me just doesn't care anymore. I'm not allowed to stand up for myself when someone is calling me names. And my manager didn't have my back at all.

I'm actually proud of my reaction. As far as I'm concerned I handled it well. I don't care if being treated like crap is in my job description, I am not going to smile pretty for abuse anymore. Fire me.

Weirdly something very similar happened to me today but not as extreme but I was blamed for something I didn't do by the person who authorized it in a meeting full of people. I let it go to stay professional in front of that quorum but man I'm still angry and brought that home with me and it's so irritating that I let it affect me. I'm proud of you for sticking up for yourself. You don't need to take abuse. I plan on confronting this person next week but I needed to calm down first because I've known them for 10 years and it threw me off.
@Turtlepower I'm sorry you went through that bs today too. I wish for you that you could of told him straight away. Because you're the one carrying it around. There's ways to let people know, but it's hard to keep emotions out of it when you're getting drug through the mud for something you didn't do.

@MarbleMarvel yeah it's very political right now but whatever. I hope you're doing ok
Taking abuse isn't any job. Glad you stood up.

I recently had a co-worker who was constantly challenging me. Doing things to make my job harder. Then he got in my face screaming at me when he didn't get a raise and I did, becauae obviously was my fault. He was escorted out.

There comes a time when a decision needs to be made, take the abuse or stand up for ourselves.
I had a similar situation at work.
The new General Manager changed the rules stating that when someone makes another mistake then they will be issued with a written warning.
I called him out, saying - "Have you changed company policy? Did you tell the supervisor to tell the workers that the next mistake will mean a written warning? The rule is that when a mistake is made tell the boss and things will be rectified. You will not have your head bitten off, just tell us and all will be put right.
He back tracked and said it was a "miscommunication"
I asked him three times and got the same response - "miscommunication"

That is what management and middle management say when they are caught out in a lie.
yeah, nobody deserves to be called names, especially at work. we are all just trying to make a living. i was being treated like i was an idiot from a new buyer from one of our customers on the phone. they weren't a very big customer of ours so i knew i could have some push back especially since i bought way more from them than they bought from us. but he didn't realize that. i kinda gave him attitude back (but no name calling)

but i knew all along i was holding the cards... towards the end of him trying to belittle me i asked him if they sold such and such items. i asked him to go in their system and look at our sales history...there was a pause...his jaw must have dropped...i was actually this close 🤏to telling him to eff off and a bunch of other stuff....and there wasn't a thing he could have done about it

I used to work in a supermarket and got plenty of rude customers. I am glad my Country is way more tolerant in allowing you to talk back to them.
That really pisses me off. I'm glad you stood up for yourself. No job is worth your self respect.
@MsSwan it's not. Getting fired from a job isn't exactly great looking though, that's my fear. I won self respect points today so I guess we'll call it a win and 🤞🏼🤞🏼🤞🏼🤞🏼🤞🏼🤞🏼I don't get canned 😂
@MarbleMarvel 🤞🤞🤞

there are jobs for good workers

I hope he realizes that he needs you
@Pretzel the issue is corporate. My coworkers know I bust ass and I'm generally really friendly and playful with people. But if he calls me in, they're gonna want me out. It's all about how it looks.
