have you ever told a coworker or employee to stop coming to work wearing the cologne or perfume they are wearing?

one of my newest guys recently started to show up wearing a strong cologne. tbh he smells like a manwhore. we are in a warehouse setting with bay doors open and it stinks to high hell. i really don't have the heart to say something. he's relatively new to this country and is working here on a work visa. if he were one of my long term employees then me and a few of the other guys would probably rag him telling him not to come to work smelling "pretty"....i hope he doesn't refill that bottle once it runs out

Oh I hate that ... I had a coworker literally bathed in cheap perfume. I almost gagged every time she walked by. 😵
@Lilymoon i have a little office and every time he's finished with a task he comes in it. now i have to write down a bunch of tasks at once so he's busy. thankfully the ladies in the office don't wear any as i always have lunch with them

@beermeplease I thought they had scent rules now about not wearing perfumes. It's enforced at my workplace now.
@Lilymoon i'm guessing there are regulations like that but we are a smaller company and i don't have a final say in rules etc

Never that but did once have a work colleague that didn’t wear either cologne nor deodorant
It was extremely difficult to work with
HR eventually had to approach him and handle it gingerly

@Kiesel We've had a couple of those as well. The last one they had to approach either quit or got fired, Im not sure but she smelled like onions.

@Kiesel Twas rough to say the least

I've begged our HR dept many times to PLEASE enforce a no perfume/cologne rule, it gives me a headache so bad I start crying. We work in a factory so why they have to do this is beyond me. Especially the ones who wear so much I can taste it. Ridiculous
come2gether · 46-50, M
@Tumbleweed that's what happens to me as well, I taste the awfulness, even though it's supposed to be a scent. It ruins everything. You can't eat or drink without everything being compromised taste wise

@come2gether Exactly and my head almost explodes 😢

@Jenny1234 oh i believe you 100% that people can have scent allergies. hope there wasn't too much friction with you and that lady. a few years ago we had about 5 filipinos working with us. they would take their lunch break separate from the others (lunch room isn't that big) they were the nicest and hardest working guys in the warehouse. but once in a while they would microwave a certain kind of dried fish. the smell was so unbearable and filled the entire office air for hours...my boss (owner of company) asked me to politely ask them not to bring that kind of fish to work....when i talked to them about they knew right away how it could offend others and complied with no fuss....great group of guys and that was years ago...still have one working there and him and i have some fun with it when we look back

@beermeplease that’s great they were so understanding. The food is a difficult one to ask about isn’t it
CrazyMusicLover · 31-35
@Jenny1234 It can cause nausea too. I wish people were aware of that.

when I worked for state, we used to send people who did that off for immediate drug testing; (anyone who smells like they bathed in cologne/perfume is usually trying to cover up other scents), which is why most failed and were immediately fired...
@wildbill83 guess i feel bad for the casual marijuana smoker that just wanted to smell nice and wasn't trying to mask anything
smileylovesgaming · 31-35, F
Oh yes I told a woman to stop
Starcrossed · 41-45, F
Not personally but I did have to have a department wide memo a decade and a half or so ago because I kept having asthma attacks.
Sapio · 51-55, M
Could he possibly suffer from hyperhidrosis and he's using cologne to mask the potential for odor?
@Sapio i don't think so as he's only been using it recently. he's been here a couple or 3 months and was fine
Sapio · 51-55, M
@beermeplease it could be that he finds one of the ladies in the office attractive.
@Sapio only have 4 ladies in the office 3 of them are married and one is about to give birth...the other one is pretty as hell but has a bf. so maybe
hippyjoe1955 · 70-79, M
Is he hiding some other 'smell'? Doesn't shower or bathe? Booze weed some other intoxicant? If not then just be up front with him and tell him that his cologne is too much for you to handle
@hippyjoe1955 he only started applying it recently. he's been working there for at about 3 months and didn't smell before. he's from sri lanka and a muslim so i know he doesn't drink and i'm sure he doesn't smoke weed

She was actually my friend and we worked together. 😅 She wore a type of a deodorant I once wore myself but started really dislike at some point. It was heavy and filling the entire room. I had to tell her I felt like suffocating.
you dont need to use the entire bottle Enrique!....

hunkalove · 70-79, M
Perfume makes me sick. Everytime that happened I had to go home. They finally began banning perfume.
Tumbleweed · F
@hunkalove Same, I hate it
