I work from home fulltime and also was president of a union during a pretty rapid forced transition to permanent work from home.

Pros:

- People really like it personally. Very few people prefer working from the office.
- It's wonderful for those who have social anxiety.
- No commute.
- Overall improvement to quality of life.

Cons:

- You're now paying for things the bsos used to pay for (electricity, pumbing, internet, etc). Even with a stipend it's not good enough.
- Many people didn't have good office setups, which led to an increase in ergonomic injuries.
- A destruction of sense of 'community'. People only talk to the six people they work with rather than having a community of colleagues.
- Workplace problems are harder to identify and resolve.
- Overall negative impact on mental health due to isolation.
- Not everyone has safety at home.

I don't think work from home is going away, and so the lesson here is finding out ways to do it -better- than we have. People really like and prefer it to going into offices, but I think everyone is less happy overall. This could be just a social problem, beyond work from home. Covid messed everyone up.

So overall I think it's not as good as people think it is, but I also get why everyone wants it.

i think it would be really hard for me since my house is very loud and overstimulating most times. i esentially had to wfh during school since 2020 and it caused me many many breakdowns due to the carelessness of everyone i live with. i also don’t really have a space i could set up to wfh since my room is super small😅
but my job is impossible to do from home so i always have to go into the office😬
I have worked from home pretty much constantly since 2008 with only some short spells in an office. Pros are that you get more time as you are not travelling. You can wear what you like (or not as you prefer), depending on the job you might be able to have a longer work day but with more breaks.

Cons are lack of contact with people. It helps to go out for a walk during the day - peerhaps to the shops or similar to see other humans!

I WFH once a week, after working 40 years, I like the easy day - but I don't think I would have liked it as a young person. I think it's too isolating and you miss out on learning and working with others in person. I know we can collaborate online, but it's just not the same.

I had to do it in the spring of 2020 , when my college cancelled in-person classes due to covid.

Trying to teach math from my basement was a nightmare.

In general, college professors think of 2020 as having been hell.

I am glad to be back .

I've been WFH since 2020. It's really convenient, I mostly work at my own pace. I do feel like getting a new job soon but it will definitely have me work onsite since it'll entail dealing with clients in person
You have to create a dedicated workspace for it to be feasible.

Fewer distractions in the office.

Depending on the position, immediate access to resources and personnel as you need them.

I worked remotely 2 days a week prior to covid. My personal preference would be 1-2 days per week in office, my current corp leadership prefers we only do 2 remote [in the spirit of collaboration which I don't really much do except with other off site colleagues so really no need to be there IMO].
I know mostly they just don't want to pay to reserve a cubicle space for me if I'm there less than 3 days a week and no one on my team wants the alternative of reserving spots like some other more remote based departments have to do.

I like being home around my pets who are unofficial emotional support animals.
I'd love it if I could

I worked at home for about a decade. I am so much more productive at home. . I think it depends on your home situation though. do you have a workspace? how is the internet connection ? what are your distractions.

I personally found working at the office to be distracting and stressful, not to mention the time and gas money lost during the commute every day. so I'll be happy to wfh.

All this being said, I haven't done wfh yet, so this will be a new experience with its own challenges I'm sure.
Whenever next I work, the intent is to wfh to keep me away from pollution of All sorts.
I wfh
Love it
