How do you get doctors to take you seriously?

My doctor makes everything a power struggle. He won’t refill prescriptions I need, he won’t approve treatment I need, etc

I’ve had similar issues with past doctors, but this is the worst it’s gotten. Any tips to make male doctors take you seriously?

Yes. Realize right off the bat that your doctor is a power hungry a$$ with a god complex, and transfer to a female doctor.

That's what I did. My male doctor misdiagnosed me twice, and the second time sent me to a surgeon for an unnecessary surgery, and then made me CRY in his office because he didn't want to test me for h pylori...which it turns out I DID HAVE...and they took out my gall bladder instead of fixing what I actually HAD the first time.

He also diagnosed my shoulder pain as bursitis, which is not fixable...and THAT turned out to be arthritis which required cortisone shots and surgery....but because of his a$$iness I waited around for seven years in pain and getting into car accidents because I couldn't turn my neck, before being treated, thinking I was untreatable.

My wife worked many years for doctors, and her father was a doctor. She has a firm idea of how a doctor should treat a patient, and we don't hesitate to change doctors if one doesn't measure up to her standards.

See a different doctor,

My grandma's doctor was the same when she was reporting certain symptoms,

And it wasn't till she changed doctors that she found out that she had so many borderline issues, including on the verge of kidney disease and diabetes,

This was on her medical record when she was seeing that doctor and he told her nothing about it ;/

We was also giving her medication that is known to make these matters worse

The doctor she sees now is shook

I am not always sure my doctor knows what he is doing. But his LPN took care of an issue for me with my ankle I have been wrestling with. Got x rays and sent me to PT. 🤠

Never had a doctor not take my seriously. Now, I have noticed some concerns. Did he decide you needed that treatment? Did another professional? Or was it you? Not trying to put you down, but there are quite a few people out there that lie and say whatever because they believe something (munchausen syndrome is rampant these days).

If you were professionally diagnosed, find a new doctor.

Change doctors. Seriously. Have you ever tried a female doctor?

@reputation I didn’t say they were
I am a retired RN. My doctor takes everything I say seriously.

I suggest you tell your doctor what you wrote here. Be strong. He might respect you. Might change his ways. Give it a shot.

I honestly have no idea. I've been having to deal with them for 13 years and still have issues that they refuse to acknowledge.

unfortunately doctors like that can rarely be reasoned with, so i'd put in for a change of doctor.
If you find out, then please let me know, too, my sister and I desperately need our problems diagnosed.

Change the doctor.
Get a different doctor

You will have to advocate for yourself and if this won’t work then find another doctor. It’s what I have to do.
