The wit of Dorothy Parker

Top | New | Old
A favorite quip concerning Jean Harlow I always thought was Parker's (the screenshot) though in a different context.

Margot Asquith, was a British socialite and author. Known for her wit, in late Victorian society she was a member of the famed aristocratic group of intellectuals called "The Souls".

@rinkydinkydoink Oops ! 😅
I loved reading the wit of Dorothy Parker—I suspect even her insults probably had her targets laughing too hard to really get angry.

I’ve sometimes wondered if my youngest sister channels her.

Asked to use "horticulture" in a sentence, Parker came up with "You can lead a horticulture but you can;'t make her think."

Or, regarding the Yale Prom, "If all the girls attending were laid end to end, I wouldn't be at all surprised."
Parker’s mouth was full of blades.
@Mamapolo2016 Yes. She was a female precursor to Don Rickles...
