Why is it called "skinny dipping" ?

Well in my circle we call it chunky dunking but hey, to each their own

Smiler2012 has the "skinny" part right but we need to account for the "dipping" also. I think rarely is naked swimming termed skinny dipping when it is permitted and not risking various troubles.

So, usually skinny dipping is short term and hence it is just a quick dip rather than a leisurely swim. Almost everyone has done it at one time or another.

You only start off very modest and caring. Then dipping is natural.

I guess because without your clothes your skinnier??
