weight loss comes down to calories in vs calories out, but the energy balance equation isnt as simple as people think. basically though as long as you get adequate protein and hit your calorie goal results will be the same. whether you do well on keto (low carbs), low fat, paleo, psmf, weight watchers, whatever, all depends on how you react to dieting. theres no real way to guess what diet will be best for you without trying, its a trial and error thing.

for most people tracking calories and protein is ideal to start with. some people do better with more structure, some do better with less, but thats the happy medium i start with for most clients. set calories at 10-12x bodyweight, set protein at about 1g per pound of your goal weight, and hit those goals. dont worry about where fat and carb levels end up, as long as youre hitting protein and staying under calories those wont matter.

you might find you do better on days with higher fat or higher carbs, and can adjust your diet to fit preferences like thas as you go.

@Anon066 my thanks for the info, I’m finding it really hard to find out how many calories I need a day to lose weight. I’ve tried MyFitnessPal and maybe 3/4 more app/websites to see what calories I need a day, but they range from 2300 up to 3350 calories a day to lose weight.

I don’t know what to believe in!!!

My current weight is 220 pounds and I want to get down to at least 200 pounds and then go on from then. But like I said so many websites, apps etc are giving me different calorie intakes 😩😩

@Ian1892 10-12x body weight is a good starting point. I'd start most clients who weigh 220 on 2200.

@Anon066 great thanks, let’s say I burn 500 calories in the gym do I still need to eat the 2200 calories?

I am using Noom and finally learning how to eat. It is showing me how to change my habits and bring to my attention what I've been doing "wrong" all these years. It isn't a diet, those have never worked for me, but a guided lifestyle change. Might be worth a try for you too🤷‍♀️😊

I've joined Weight Watchers and use their app to track what I'm eating. I've lost over 90lbs.
