weight loss comes down to calories in vs calories out, but the energy balance equation isnt as simple as people think. basically though as long as you get adequate protein and hit your calorie goal results will be the same. whether you do well on keto (low carbs), low fat, paleo, psmf, weight watchers, whatever, all depends on how you react to dieting. theres no real way to guess what diet will be best for you without trying, its a trial and error thing.
for most people tracking calories and protein is ideal to start with. some people do better with more structure, some do better with less, but thats the happy medium i start with for most clients. set calories at 10-12x bodyweight, set protein at about 1g per pound of your goal weight, and hit those goals. dont worry about where fat and carb levels end up, as long as youre hitting protein and staying under calories those wont matter.
you might find you do better on days with higher fat or higher carbs, and can adjust your diet to fit preferences like thas as you go.
