1900 Galveston orphanage

This was the Catholic orphanage in Galveston right before the 1900 hurricane. When the storm hit, the nuns tied themselves to the children to keep them together. Sadly all but 3 children died. Tomorrow is the 125th anniversary of the storm. Also no negative comments on this

So much history on that tiny island. I remember going there in the early/mid 70s with my parents and grandparents and going into the bunkers built up to shoot Nazi submarines. Many people don’t know they were a 100 yards off the coast. Then you think about the 1900 Hurricane and back into the 1800s the impact of the island. Good stuff.

@SJones48 the old water slide on Seawall Blvd had that installation. Now it’s a mini golf and go cart place I think. Changed so much

They made a human chain of 8,000+ people in Galveston this weekend to represent the number of lives lost in the storm, a number that is still unknown. It set a record for the world's longest human chain.
