BREAKING NEWS: Train carrying more than 30,000 gallons of propane fuel derails in Florida - Hazmat crews rush to the scene after six cars overturn

A train carrying more than 30,000 gallons of propane fuel has derailed near a homeless camp in Florida
Five cars were carrying sheetrock, while one of the overturned cars was carrying propane
There is no indication at this time that any of the fuel is leaking, but hazmat teams are monitoring the situation

A train carrying more than 30,000 gallons of propane fuel has derailed in Florida, sparking new environmental concerns just weeks after a toxic train overturned in Ohio.

Southern Manatee Fire Rescue Chief Robert Bounds said Tuesday afternoon that six Seminole Gulf railway cars fell off the tracks near a homeless camp at the Sarasota-Manatee County border.

Five of the cars were carrying sheetrock, while the sixth was carrying propane. Another train car that did not overturn was also transporting propane at the time, and jumped the track during the partial derailment, FOX 13 reports.

This one is in Florida,... so FEMA will be sent to set the propane on fire.
So much for infrastructure and improving railroad track systems. Look at the ties…how old and worn they are.
Class 1 or class 2 railroad?

Bet joe snubbs Florida like he did Ohio😏

@soar2newhighs we'll see
akindheart · 61-69, F
@Virgo79 even more the reason Trump won.
Virgo79 · 61-69, M
@akindheart yep🙂
@Funlov Had the Palestine, Ohio incident not happened you and I would not be going back and forth.
Sadly it was politicized. But the human element needs to be addressed too.
TodY’s derailment did not result in the release of any hazardous properties. That said the focus is now on derailments , and especially if hazardous materials are being transported.

@soar2newhighs and thank you for your service. I mean that.
@Funlov thank you.
Funlov · M
@soar2newhighs no no thank you
Build back better.

this is not on my side of the state...will keep my eyes open
wildbill83 · 36-40, M
I did some number crunching just for kicks...

given the cost of equipment & rails, we could replace our entire freight rail network with new railroad (140,000+/- miles worth) and locomotives twice over with the money we've wasted on Ukraine...

so much for "build back better"... 🤔
@wildbill83 Outstanding!! I agree 100%!

It’s not a dangerous product
Funlov · M
@acpguy are you a pipeliner? Why didn’t you say so?
acpguy · C
@Funlov Got out in 1995 and have been doing my own business since. Cathodic protection consulting and testing primarily for under ground fuel tanks and water lines.
Funlov · M
@acpguy good for you I know on the company but I sent you that pic I started out running a hoe digging pipe line did it for 12 years and started my own company now I have 100 employees and I’m still young I’m 43 but good for you. I love seeing that.
acpguy · C
And Biden and other liberals shot down pipelines that could transport gas more safely but Buffet and others who have big investments in trains helped lobby against pipelines.
Funlov · M
@acpguy yes, United States in Canada could control the market. Be to very wealthy countries if it wasn’t for the stupid politics.
Subsumedpat · 36-40, M
Propane tanks are pressurized, they are made very strong with many safety features thanks to regulations.
samueltyler2 · 80-89, M
@Subsumedpat the key world, government regulations!!
Subsumedpat · 36-40, M
@samueltyler2 Yes there is always a need for a balance between being free to do what you want and protecting people from the robber barons.
Budwick · 70-79, M
@Subsumedpat Railroad tracks are very secure because of regulations too.
Look at the photo - the regulations don't keep them safe over the years.
FreestyleArt · 31-35, M
Seems like the Democrats are only attacking the red states and then frame the Conservative and patriots or Trump. Georgie wants to get rid of us.
Safety is socialism.
Planning for safety is bowing to leftists and woke facts.
Americans would rather end everything in a giant nuke. Obviously.
Hopefully the propane laden cars are not potentially to be affected by fire. That is a situation that can be catastrophic .Kingman, Arizona 1973 I believe. The acronym BLEVE…not a good thing.
Budwick · 70-79, M
@soar2newhighs boiling liquid expanding vapour explosion (BLEVE, /ˈblɛviː/ BLEV-ee) is an explosion caused by the rupture of a vessel containing a pressurized liquid ...

@Budwick spent 33 years in the Fire service. Nothing like fighting an oil refinery fire. That was an experience…Texas, 1976. Luckily no BLEVE..but it was a long operation.
samueltyler2 · 80-89, M
Should the Federal government have more rules and regulations, or allow industry to continue to set them?
@samueltyler2 Feds, RR Unions and RR Mgt sit down and get things done.
samueltyler2 · 80-89, M
@soar2newhighs now that is an idea, maybe the RR will spend some of their huge profits for the better good. Will that really happen, voluntarily?
thisguy20 · 41-45, M
Why do I get the feeling Florida Man had something to do with it...
akindheart · 61-69, F
@thisguy20 who is Florida Man?
thisguy20 · 41-45, M
@akindheart Best answer I can give you is saying, google "Florida Man". When you see the results you will understand
akindheart · 61-69, F
@thisguy20 got it. irrational acts meme..
Convivial · 26-30, F
Anyone remember when a tanker truck carrying propane overturned in a Spanish camp site many years ago.... Horrific injuries

And I heard now trains collided in Greece. They are trying to poison rural areas, to horde the “herd” in smart 15minute cities soon
ididntknow · 51-55, M
There is a pattern developing I’m thinking, a train crash in Greece yesterday too, are they trying to keep us busy ?
Fairydust · F
No one see’s a pattern here 🙄
samueltyler2 · 80-89, M
@Fairydust there is a group of individuals, real or bots, that want to turn everything into a grand conspiracy to destroy people. they live to make people angry, and to increase hatred. they really don't see the true patter in the train cases, that the industry is making huge profits and not investing in infrastructure. They say they want government to stay out of business, but then when something like this happens, blame government for not being strict enough. It is so sad that our society gets split further every day from their theories. Murdoch, the owner of Fox and more media, in sworn testimony admitted he knew that what his so called news anchors were saying was false, all lies, but he kept them going because the only color he was interested in was green.

@Fairydust This is just coming out. There are over 1,000 train accidents / derailments each year. That is a lot and you do not hear about all the spills of crude oil from these or other hazardous materials. The railroads have been a protected species since the late 1800's as they have had very good lobbyists buying off the our politicians. In 1990 Northern Border Pipeline wanted to put in a coal slurry pipeline that would have hauled coal to Texas from Canada, the coal was mainly for export but the water used to move the coal was needed in Texas as they go though many dry spells. The water would have been mostly snow melt water gathered in Canada, Montana, ND and SD. It was later proven that the Fed's did not allow the pipeline due to being bought off by the railroads. Northern Border Pipeline later won a lawsuit against the FED's and the railroads for over $300 Million because of the bribes. Railroads do not want someone cutting into their profits and that is one of the big reasons Keystone Pipeline was shot down by Biden and the liberal politicians. They were paid off by the railroads and that is why you see hundreds of train cars hauling oil through towns and along rivers today. Pipelines have proven to be a much safer means of moving toxic and non-toxic liquids and gases.

All that deregulation, costs

@Darksideinthenight2 It's not a one or the other. We need more defense spending anyway.
And, the fact is, those big omnibus bills allegedly for infrastructure never lead to more / improved infrastructure.
At least with Obama we got signs promising a new bridge or improved rails. They never happened either. There was never enough left over after filling the DNC coffers.
