I remember that old joke from my NYC days about why bypassers just keep walking and never intervene when they see what looks like a NYC cabbie being physically assaulted. It's because they don't know who started it and they don't know where it's the rider being beaten up by the cabbie or the other way around.

I drove ride share for a couple of years, most of those comments came from the back seat! I just smiled and nodded, and used my turn signal before changing lanes of course!

Most of the cab drivers where I live are immigrants, so they wouldn’t really complain about foreigners.
