DoorDash is becoming like Amazon—all purpose…

Now, if I’m reading this right, they’ll take your package to be delivered ?

You may never have to leave your home again. 😳

@Mooed78 Me! It's often like Christmas when I get a gift from me to me and haven't a clue what it is! Then I look at my Amazon Store Card 😞

Been doing that for years in Norway. Only for small packages though, up to 5 kg, 35x25x12 cm. The idea is that it is a size that fits in a standard Norwegian (Scandinavian?) postbox. In our case it's picked up in the middle of the night or early morning by the same service that delivers newspapers. The Post Office also does it and picks up packages at the same time as they deliver letters.
@ninalanyon DoorDash does that there ?

@bijouxbroussard Not Doordash. It's a home-grown service called HeltHjem. In English the name means "All the way home". They are part of the Schibsted media company that owns a site called Finn.no that is the Norwegian equivalent of Ebay. Helthjem can be used by anyone but it is also an integral part of Finn.no so that when you buy something in that market place then Finn issues a code that the seller writes on the package to be collected by HeltHjem and also holds the money until the buyer receives and approves the goods.

The Norwegian market is quite small with a geographically scattered population and also quite agile so the big global players don't always find it easy to break in. Uber hasn't done well here, the local taxi firms all have apps anyway, Amazon has no Norwegian physical presence.
@ninalanyon I see.

@SW-User I’m not sure there’s any food delivery service quite that "hands on"—yet. 😄

isn't UPS still run by Teamsters? There will be kneecaps broken over this.
@Lostpoet I'm pretty sure they take it to a ups facility.
Lostpoet · M
@SooperSarah But isn't that taking work away from the UPS drivers?
@Lostpoet no. It's no different than you taking it to the ups store or other drop point. Ups still still transports and delivers the package

Humph!! Kinda cool. I only wish I sent out as many packages that I received. 🤷
@Punxi Same here, good point. 😄
I think someone will take that last part as a challenge actually.
@canusernamebemyusername Lol, I would not be surprised. 🤭

It only says "first... pickup free". Sounds like a gimmick, with strings attached
@ArtieKat Yes, they will definitely charge for that service after the first time. But I guess if someone lives far from their post office or from UPS it might be worth it.

I've only heard of it when i was in Canada.. i uaed it on my very first day there to deliver me groceries and coffee because at the time i was freaked out and thought that i will starve to death with no close supermarkets around (not used to this).. so yea!
Justmeraeagain · 56-60, F
I'm not sure I would trust that.

When gas prices are high, this is the only way to fly.
bookerdana · M
I find this incredibly sad

Oh wow that’s handy. I live in a small town so we don’t have this.
