I know this doesn't pertain to any of you fine readers

Im so sick of the mfs that will remain stopped at an intersection with a stop sign for each direction, like 4 way , etc. They will have completed their stop and will see someone like me approaching, obviously slowing to a stop, but they wont budge until I have come to a complete stop. Then I have to wait for them to pass by before I can continue on my way.

If they would have continued on their way after completing their required stop, it would have saved us both some time, because they would have been through the intersection by the time I completed my mandatory stop and could have both had a quick stop n'go experience.

Do they think i was there to spell them? How long have they been waiting there? I know it's a minor offense but it's the implications that bother me so much, and it's the amount of control they have over me at that point and I know the only power I have to make a difference will make the situation worse.

The worst implication is that they make me pay for their fear and lack of confidence behind the wheel. I know were all different but differences shouldn't cost me the very thing I try to save by driving efficiently. ..time. time should be equally important to everyone. After all, what is time, if it's not life. Wasting time is wasting life. People shouldn't be allowed to waste the time of strangers without consequences.

You'd lose a hell of a lot more time- by directly losing life- if you just pulled the kind of Chicago stop you're probably thinking a stop sign calls for and consequently got pancaked by a semi doing the same thing; it's not a "pause" sign. Or if you hit a bicyclist, who seem to be under the impression that it's a "stop- unless you're on a bike" sign, and wound up in prison. I suggest you look up what "complete stop" actually means, in legal terms; it's longer than you likely think.

This is to say nothing of the fact that they may simply be checking the other directions to make sure they're not going to hit, or be hit by, a third party who's not bothering to stop at all; yes, you SHOULD be checking that as soon as you approach an intersection, but many make seeing down crossroads impossible.

I recall coming to a 4-way intersection where the traffic lights were not working. As I approached, I noticed the other 3 roads had cars at the intersection. No one moved, because of this I went through the intersection and one of the other drivers gave me the bird, then followed me, intimating that I was in the wrong and he threatened to call the police through gestures.
Crazy man, he sat there too scared to drive into the intersection then blasts me for doing what he would not do.

Wow. I'm only going to say for the same reason I don't take off the instant the light turns green and I'm in front. I look both left and right. Three times In my life the person next to me pulled out and got T-Boned at about 40 miles per hour or more because the coming traffic tried to beat their red light.

@Gibbon i understand that. That's what you're supposed to do, or rather, it's implied when the rule is to procede with caution or something like that. I'm a bit more proactive in that im already scanning the roadway and the color of the other traffic light.

Also, even if you're not one to be as cautious, i already expect a delay from any car in front of me at a red light, especially these days with cars having that mode you can put them in where they cut the engine when the car is stopped and automatically start back up when the accelerator is pressed. Idk what that does for their spark plugs or their starters, but I'm sure it saves them gas in the long run. It depends on how long they typically stay stopped.

Anyway, that wasn't my point. I'm talking about drivers having that deer caught in the headlights look as they see me crawling to a stop and not moving until i do. The speeds im talking about aren't fast enough for me to be able to hit them even if i didn't come to a complete stop and they proceded as if they were expecting me to stop. Idk if that made any sense. My point is that i see them watching me. It's obvious I'm stopping. Its as if they think we're working together to be sure to keep a driver posted at that intersection at all times and require me to stop completely before they're relieved of duty. Lol

@Jayciedubb I get It. Just understand it's because you're moving. @Gusman gave a good aggravating example that also holds true at four way stops. People sitting don't know how to use the person to the right rule. Holy shit somebody go
Jayciedubb · 56-60, M
@Gibbon yes. that's exactly what I understand. I'm allowed to be moving up to the point where I'm supposed to stop. My requirement to stop has no bearing on their allowance to proceed. It would be understandable if I was showing no signs of stopping, or maybe if the intersection wasn't already posted as a four-way stop.

Anyway, what I've often wondered was suppose I'm one of those commuters who tries to take the Frontage Road and ends up at that stop sign everybody else has to stop at and it's just a formality, because it's obvious there are no cars coming from any other direction except for the ones coming down the frontage road trying to escape the commute traffic on the freeway. But see there's a cop watching in Plainview so everybody has to stop. No Hollywood stops. If I'm behind a motorcycle that stops at the line and I stop right behind him. Can I proceed without stopping again at the line since I already stopped a motorcycle's length behind the line? It's not worth a day in court to find out, or the points against my record if I'm wrong. But it is a bit of a gray area isn't it?

I've only had one moving violation my whole driving career and it was for speeding. I decided to go to traffic school to keep the points off my record. That was the longest Saturday I ever had in my life, but I did learn one vital piece of information. Me and one other guy were the only two people who there for speeding. The class was full and everybody else was ticketed for failure to come to a complete stop at a stop sign.

What I learned was that if I come to a complete stop at every stop sign I come across, the odds of me getting another moving violation are slim to none. And so far, that's been the case.

lot of distracted and wreckless speed demons on the road today. you sound pretty aggressive yourself

They’re making sure that you aren’t going to hit them. You can’t trust people to see that there’s a stop sign.
