PSA: bicyclists should not ride in the street. Streets are for cars. There are seriously so many bike trails for you.
Where I live, cars will deservedly harass you and run you off the road if you go anywhere near them on a bicycle or even on foot. There are so many bike trails and sidewalks for you to get where you're going without bothering anybody.

As you can see, I could easily reach the end of the trail/sidewalk to grab my daily tree leaves and maybe some roadkill to cook if I'm lucky. What more could a person ask for?

This is absolute nonsense, thankfully not a common opinion here in Europe
Tell them to let you know how you can reach a place that is 100km/60mi away by only using cycling paths, if they can. If they can't, you're going to use the road too.
