Do you think modern car is getting more and more ridiculous?

Traffic are more congest over times yet engine horse power on private vehicle is triple fold than last 3 decades, make it capable to accelerate at uncontrollable speed pose more dangerous to other road user as we normal driver not professional racer our driving skill didint gain improvement as sync with engine advanment over decades yet is normal to found those 500hp above family sedan or suv driving by some lunatic immature mind on road.Last year in northen state of my country a women on her way riding motorcycle home from grocery shopping is get hit and instant killed by over speeding original spec bmw suv what caught on road side cctv show the car launch like canonball and smash the women with bike into pieces the shatter body is even cause paramedic team took times to complete collect in whole on accident scene.Beside what is the point you cant get to your destination regarless of how fast you can drive as you just stuck in traffic like others?I know it is provide to meet demand relation between automaker to auto buyer but this vicious cycle is getting worst 😰

I'm not sure what country you're in but here in the US we think the solution to all traffic issues is to expand. More lanes, more signals, more rules. The solution is actually the opposite. It's been proven that adding more signage and signals decreases driver awareness. It's also been proven that adding more lanes creates more traffic.

The real solution is to build infrastructure that supports a variety of transportation methods (trains, bicycles, walking, etc.) and have more robust driving tests so it's harder to get a license. But that's not gonna happen anytime soon.

@SinlessOnslaught Exactly true, slapping more lane encourage more people to drive eventually lead more car on road in the end still more congest this fact is very well explain in Notjustbike youtube channel.Im from malaysia our gov solution to ease traffic same as your add more high speed way induce more car traffic it is a poor infrastructure planning.

Cars aren't just for getting from A to B. They are to produce enjoyment, entertainment and comfort whilst travelling. HP does not increase the rate of accidents. The level of inability of the driver does. After all, the car does not drive unless someone is driving it.

@Gumba1000 But the number one cause of accidents is driver error.

@Gumba1000 Because business exist just for profit they sold to whoever effort to buy not who competent to drive fast unlike race drive need going through qualification test for entering group race. Those high perfomance car on road today some really have output that cant be tame even with it all driving assist feature like traction control and ect further more some allow user to disable it.No offense sir i just concern about this unhealthy trend.😊

I agree. Cars are ridiculously over-powered for their normal usage; commuting, grocery shopping, pick-up the kids from soccer practice, etc.

We need much more investment in public transit and much less subsidizing of car infrastructure.

Yes, they are absolutely absurd. Not just the power, but the ridiculous size of the things and the strain they place on public infrastructure. In the 1970s, the most popular car in the UK, the Ford Fiesta, weighed approximately 0.75 tonnes. Today, the engine and battery alone of an electric SUV may weigh twice that. Completely unsuitable for private use and built up areas of habitation.
