Post a photo of a classic vehicle

Been seeing lots of old American classic cars being driven around this holiday weekend. And I was thinking this might be an international behavior of humans in many countries to show off their old classics. Nostalgia may know no bounds, you know?

If you have a photo, please post a picture here of an old classic car or other vehicle in your area of the world. I'm hoping to see cool or interesting vehicles from the past from all over the world!

@starmitzy YAS! Best answer! I love it. This really appeals to my nerdy side
😁

@Gerryguy Buckets in the front.

@WonderGirl Nice. My dad had an old Brown Buick (not as nice as the photo you have) when we were growing up. He always called it a POS, but I kind of liked it. Lol

I'm a big fan of most of the lightweight old Indian scout models.
I thought this one looked interesting online and posted this.

My Mom drove us around in one of these when I was a little kid.
Scribbles · 36-40, F
@jackjjackson I just looked up photos on google. That looks like a pretty sweet car. No wonder you miss having it.

Ever watch Jerry Seinfeld's Comedians in Cars getting coffee? I used to watch it, because sometimes the jokes were funny, but mostly it was pretty cool seeing the different cars. (he always had a different vehicle each episode)
jackjjackson · 61-69, M
No. Maybe I should. It was my favorite color green. @Scribbles
room101 · 51-55, M
@Scribbles Never seen anybody anywhere in Europe wear a helmet cover. Certainly not one like that🤣🤣🤣

Wouldn't surprise me if they're illegal over here.
TheBannibalOne · 61-69, M
Here's my old car.
SW-User
@TheBannibalOne I like the early Cougars, even better than the Mustangs of that era. Nice car!
TheBannibalOne · 61-69, M
@SW-User after this one I had a 67 Mustang .
Had it 12 years. All fixed up .The Cougar was painted aqua blue later.

My girlfriend/future wife and her brother drove a Model A like this in high school. I rode to school in the rumble seat unless it rained and I got to ride inside with Lynn on my lap.
exexec · 61-69, C
@Scribbles True. Seat belts are great for safety, but they cut down on some of the fun times we had in the old days.
olderuncle944 · 70-79, M
@exexec I would have prayed for rain lol

Humber Super Snipe 65.
I had one of these for several years. Drove like a block of flats and got 15 miles to the imperial gallon. But I loved it. It just wasnt practical..😷
room101 · 51-55, M
@whowasthatmaskedman One of my friends had one of these which he inherited from his dad. An MG Magnette Mk4 circa 1964. I adored that car.

Triumph Dolomite Sprint. I had one of these in the 19990's, mine was white with the ubiquitous black vinyl covered roof. They had a little switch on the gear lever which activated "overdrive". Super fast in its day (mine was about twenty years old when I got it but could still hold its own against many "modern" cars). Sadly, they were very temperamental. You had to have a bloody degree in automotive engineering just to keep the engine running.

I still loved that car though.
Scribbles · 36-40, F
@room101 Does super fast mean it had fast acceleration or a fast top speed?

What does overdrive do?

Looks like a cool car. :)
room101 · 51-55, M
@Scribbles LOL by modern standards it was a veritable tortoise.

To answer your questions, it had a 2.0litre V4 16 valve engine that produced 130BHP and a top speed of 120mph. In terms of acceleration, on a good day it could, theoretically, produce a 0-60mph in just over 8.0 seconds.

Overdrive was a "sort of" extra gear used for acceleration whilst still in the max high gear. In those days, most cars had a four speed gear box. The idea of overdrive was that one could be cruising in 4th gear, decide that a burst of acceleration was needed and, instead of shifting down to 3rd gear, engage overdrive and, whoosh off you went.

The interior, in my view, was even cooler. Wooden panelling everywhere and an awesome alloy spoked sports steering wheel.

If you look closely at the gear lever, you can just about make out the overdrive switch.

Bloody hell, I loved that car!
Scribbles · 36-40, F
@room101 Ah, thanks for the info.

The interior looks gorgeous btw!

Thinking of bicycles today, and thought I'd share this:

I literally had this bike when I was a kid. I freaking rode it all the time to my friends' houses. It was the best! I even rode it on the grass in the back yard and pretended it was a horse. Sometimes I wore my dad's old motorcycle helmet with it for kicks, and pretended it was a space motorbike, and I was a racer sponsored by Nabisco.

My parents bought it for 15 dollars at a rummage sale one summer at a house near my grandparents. I was so happy, because I'd been asking for a bike for years. Best present in the world. Best toy you can give a kid in my opinion-well at least for me it was. It was sacred, I wouldn't hear a bad word about it. A rich girl in a class below me got jealous and had words with me over it. She wanted to buy it from me. And when I wouldn't she talked smack about me for years... I dearly.wanted to smack her face.

It was wicked cool. I took good care of that bike. it was everything. My Grandpa called me a speed demon as a kid whenever I'd ride around.

I loved this bike up until my best friend bought a bike where you could switch gears and then she suddenly could pedal easier and faster then me. After a summer of lagging just a little behind everywhere we went, I was sick of it.
I saved up money to buy a better bike at that point, and gave my old bike to a younger cousin. She was so happy about getting my iconic Oreo bike. Lol
My favorite car is a classic now (they’re not produced here anymore).
Tetsuya · 51-55, M
@bijouxbroussard I had a '69 Ghia, wasn't convertible, or pretty, but it was fun
@Tetsuya They have such beautiful lines. My friend used to call his the "poor man’s Porsche". 😅

Saw this beaut this morning. I have no idea what the car model and make is.
Scribbles · 36-40, F
@Iwillwait Nice! Very cool.
Iwillwait · M
@Scribbles You would look great in that!
Scribbles · 36-40, F
@Iwillwait Aw. Thanks. I wouldn't mind a ride in a car like that through some scenic area or go out for coffee. So fancy. I'd have to go throw a dress on and do something with my hair, wear some big ass sunglasses so I match. Would be fun.

Not what I would want everyday though.
Scribbles · 36-40, F
How about an old boat?
kodiac · 22-25, M

@FeetAreFantastic lol. Neat. That had to be interesting to see.
room101 · 51-55, M
One doesn't see many Classic cars out on the roads here in Europe. Yeah, we have Classic Car Shows etc but very few are in common use.

Various carbon emissions regulations have put most (if not all of them) into moth balls. 🤷‍♂️
Scribbles · 36-40, F
@room101 I don't think it makes sense to have a car, where you live either. You got the metro and walking, etc. Uber if you need it, right? Do they have decent areas for cycling in Barcelona? Just curious.

I'm always a bit frustrated by the patchy network for cycling here. Some roads have a decent enough room for cyclists to share the road, or even rarer...an extra lane for them. But some places, it's downright dangerous still to share the road with cars. I can get away with cycling to work if I take some back roads or the beach if it's early in the morning. or farmer's market days, and a few other areas, but I'd probably die in traffic going to the shopping mall...or any busy area during rush hour. Lol. We've been wanting to get into cycling more with my cousin who lives in Utah. He sold his car when he moved there and cycles everywhere and is built and fit AF from it.
room101 · 51-55, M
@Scribbles Barcelona is a cyclists paradise. Maybe even more so than Amsterdam. Cycle lanes pretty much on every road, government sponsored bikes for hire everywhere and motorists that respect cyclists.

I'm not much of a cyclist to be honest. Never felt particularly comfortable on two wheels. Don't know why, I've never had any accidents or mishaps.................well, there was that one time in Nicosia, Cyprus🤫🫣🤣🤣🤣
Scribbles · 36-40, F
@room101 Good to know!
