Yes though my current Buick isn't one.

I can't even figure out where to put the gas in it.

brain163 · 61-69, M
I only drive stick.........................as should EVERY one when going for their License.

And my kids learned to drive stick. Because now they KNOW how a car works - and I never wanted them to be in a position where they were stuck for a lift because they could not drive one.

Most folk these days don't actually DRIVE a car - they just sit there and steer (often badly) - having NO idea of what the cars is doing, or what's happening around them. I mean, how many folk even swing around to see what's behind them before they back up anymore?? Nah - just use the camera. Ooops - sorry I hit you, I didn't see you in the camera!

Everyone (except for those who ACTUALLY need assistance) is being dumbed down, so when they run into ANYTHING out of the ordinary, they are mostly lost.

Here endeth the rant.................

😎

@brain163 You aren't wrong it's a skill all should learn. Plus it's much more fun.
Jacko1971 · 51-55, M
@violentred automatic transmission is better if you are regularly driving in traffic.
brain163 · 61-69, M
@Jacko1971 With all due respect, we'll agree to disagree with that. I drive in heavy traffic regularly. With a hydraulic clutch, there is almost no effort. I'm 66 and refuse to drive an auto. The sad part is, there are very few manufacturers these days that make them.

Many cars in the UK, South America etc are mostly still manuals - even taxis! It's largely the North American market that's been marketed to by the manufacturers.

I learned to drive on a 3 speed on the column. I've had several manual transmissions vehicles since then. I prefer to drive a stick, except for when u get stuck in bumper to bumper, stop and go traffic.
violentred · 26-30, M
@HappyCamper74 It sucks in traffic unfortunately
HappyCamper74 · 46-50, M

I learned on a standard.
I know how it works. I used to drive stick when I was a kid, now I have a physical disability I can't drive anything except for wheelchairs.
violentred · 26-30, M
@PiecingBabyFaceTogether I'm sorry to hear
Degbeme · 70-79, M
I leave driving sticks to the witches. I do know how to drive a manual transmission. 😬
goliathtree · 56-60, M
@Degbeme But....can you drive three on the tree?
Degbeme · 70-79, M
@goliathtree Absolutely.
Tetsuya · 51-55, M
@Degbeme my introduction to the three on tree was my second car, 74 Dodge Dart
goliathtree · 56-60, M
I have driven manual since I was 11 (earlier if you count a tractor)....plus a two speed rear end. three on the tree as well...and even four on the tree saginaw, which is rarer.
calicuz · 51-55, M
Yes, I learned way back in ancient times...................... 1988.
hippyjoe1955 · 61-69, M
If you mean can I drive a vehicle with standard transmission. I can't drive a stick. I knew a girl that was pretty sure could fly a broom stick it that counts.
Harmonium1923 · 51-55, M
Yep. I've never had one as my own car, so I'm not great at it, but I can do it. Just don't ask me to parallel park on a hill.
akindheart · 61-69, F
yes my first 6 cars were standard. I learned on a 1968 VW beetle
violentred · 26-30, M
@akindheart herbie

Harmonium1923 · 51-55, M

thank god i know how to drive standard transmission. there were a few times in the field when i needed to move heavy machinery and the gearbox was manual. one of those times was a near miss and the construction worker was trapped under a land mover.
violentred · 26-30, M
@tenente That's scary
violentred · 26-30, M
@Lilnonames You may borrow my jeep then.
