I've two, a lightweight wire with a key lock that I use short stops (groceries etc) and a heavy-duty wire with a combination lock. If you want something really strong. there is available a hardened steel folding chain lock that folds up into a compact shape and stays on the bike. You would need an angle grinder or gas axe to cut through it.

15+mm (thick) cable lock, I use key, lock it to somewhere you can thread it through your frame and rear wheel

the only locks I trusted where from bike, with a guarantee behind it

I've used chain-type locks before - not really a problem. I discovered Lockpicking Lawyer on youtube and watched a bunch of his vids on defeating various bike locks.

@butterflybaby75 Chains are fantastic, but they’re heavy to carry. I’m a road cyclist, so for me, pounds equal pain.

@Sigil mtb is my go-to but yeah weight is an important factor.

I use a U-lock if I can find a bike rack. If no bike rack is available I use a 1/2 inch (12 mm) cable. Just don’t leave it unattended too long.

@badminton Ta yeah I already do that.
