@BlueVeins both my jobs are close to my house. Most of the time I just take my bike or skateboard

I don't drive needlessly. I use the buses for most of my trips into town about two miles away: in good weather often the bus to town but walk home.

Our bus services on their main routes are usually fairly good and I can reach the next town (ten miles) quite easily by bus.

I can also travel by train from town to many other parts of the country; and without the inconvenience of via London. (That would entail crossing London from one main-line terminus to another. The Underground system is fine for that and easy to find your way on; but it's been so long since I last used it, I do not know how you pay your fare these days. I have the impression it is no longer a matter of simply asking at a ticket-office or buying from a ticket-machine; but it's going that way on Network Rail too.)

Othwerwise, most of my "social, domestic & leisure" journeys would be impractical, even impossible, without my car.

It is undeniably expensive though, with petrol around £1.40 / litre at the moment, high tax and insurance, and sometimes-expensive servicing costs. And it's only a modest Renault not a Range-Rover, nor one of those bloated builder's pick-ups or two-tonne vans that seem to have become fashionable commuter-chariots!
Public transit is a disease spreader and people get stabbed all the time using it.
If you own a car, and it is insured, the gas doesn't cost all that much, and even cheaper if its an EV.
I used to live in a small town where we didn't need a car for anything, we just walked everywhere. Much more healthy, but in large cities, really need a way to get around.
Can you sell your car and get an e-bike or e-scooter?

I stopped driving when my panic attacks started and became severe.

Cars are expensive and the extra money is good to have.
emmasfriend · 46-50, F
I ceased to drive when I realised that my eyes were not good enough.
After cataract operations I can see very clearly now, but I am not keen on applying for a licence and being tested.
And I am accustomed to not driving now.

@emmasfriend Do you have a straight trip into London and Portsmouth? How long would it take to get to London from your home?
emmasfriend · 46-50, F
@samueltyler2
20 minutes on the bus, wait for next train [2 per hour] then 50 minutes to central London
samueltyler2 · 80-89, M
@emmasfriend Our train ride is about the same to get to Manhattan to the theater.

Compliments of a newly acquired blind spot in my left eye, I’m not driving at the moment. It’s on my list of repairs.
I stopped driving after my car bit the dust decades ago. I live in a city that has pretty good public transportation, everything is pretty close and I have quite a few cabbie friends. So it’s been okay.
Thinkingdeeper · 36-40, M
Health condition means driving is a non starter for me. It does mean a lot more planning to go to places though.
SunshineGirl · 36-40, F
I sold my car last year.
YoMomma ·
I drive.. just not often.. i like being home
You drive, you just don’t drive anymore. Plenty of people give it up.
emiliya · 22-25, F
I have one, but i am drunk all the time and do not want to kill anyone, especially if they have children. Some have children in their cars.
samueltyler2 · 80-89, M
it is very costly to keep a car, particularly if you do not use it. then if you use it you have to pay for gas.
FloorGenAdm · 51-55, M
Mine overheats after 5 minutes so I only drive to nearby places.
TexChik · F
If you can't afford to drive it, then by all means sell it. Stop paying for insurance after you do. Invest the money in the market.
Thevy29 · 41-45, M
Some c#nt stole it and I haven't reported it or got another one since they are too expensive.
lissah · 36-40, F
Yeah I drive. It beats the hell outta walking.
specman · 51-55, MVIP
Do you have insurance on it?
Ilovelily1986 · 36-40, F
@specman I don't know if it still does. If I need to go to the next town over I usually ask my neighbor to take me
Levenrack · 46-50, M
@Ilovelily1986 you would know if you had insurance. You pay monthly or yearly payments, for the policy. Unless I'm missing something here?
specman · 51-55, MVIP
Monalisasmith86 · 41-45, F
Then why’d you buy a car for
Monalisasmith86 · 41-45, F

Ilovelily1986 · 36-40, F

Monalisasmith86 · 41-45, F
