High maintenance

I was suddenly gripped by curiosity this afternoon as to whether or not our car has a spare wheel in the boot. Went outside and slowly cleared out my daughter's clobber to reveal what lay underneath:

* Two complete changes of clothes
* Sunhat
* Peaked cap
* Swimsuit
* Towel
* Leotard
* Sunscreen
* Water bottle
* Hair bands
* Anti-histamine
* Witch hazel
* Plasters
* Wet wipes
* Yoga mat
* Soft blanket
* Sand shoes
* Torch
* Hoodie
* Waterproofs
* Emergency bag of marshmallows

My sole personal.possession in the same car is the CD album Spiceworld, but no working CD player to listen to it on 🙄

How on earth did my parents cope with four girls? 🤔

Found the spare tyre 👍

THIS POST IS AWESOME! 😍😍😍 And I'm super happy you got your Spiceworld CD and I hope you'll get to listen to it soon! 😌😌😌 I understand lots of things in the car because when we go on a family day trip car ride, Josh and Emily take some of their toys with them to play with in the car and Isabella packs similar things to your girl! 😝😝😝 Kids are worth it though! 😁😁😁 I LOVE kids with all my heart so I could definitely cope with four girls just like your precious mom! 😘😘😘

@MommyLucy Worth every minute 😌 But I sometimes think life would be easier if we never visited any place with a large body of water that she feels obliged to jump into 😅

@SunshineGirl The easier option isn't always the most fun! 🤪🤪🤪 My daughter Isabella quotes this line from Harry Potter which may be fitting next time you see your wonderful girl next to a puddle of water "sometimes we must choose between what is right or what is easy" 🪄🪄🪄 A fitting line because in my opinion the right thing is to let kids be kids! 🥳🥳🥳

If you ditch the spae you'll have more room for changes of clothes. :-)

My current car doesn't have a spare, all the previous ones did. But in nearly fifty years of driving I have never changed a wheel at the roadside. Spare wheels are just unnecessary extra weight unless you are driving far from civilization.

I have had three flats. Two were on rear wheels and I was close enough to home and a tyre supplier for it to be safe enough to continue driving very slowly.

The third was catastrophic blowout caused by a pothole in the winter, on a country road near Ilfracombe, on a slope, in the dark and rain. That was just a few years ago (2020 I think) and even if I had had a spare and a jack it would have been ludicrously unsafe to try changing the wheel in such conditions.

@SunshineGirl The car was on the back of the local tyre company's lorry within 45 minutes. And they didn't charge me for the call out, just for two new tyres and fitting. Had to have two because it was not possible to find another Michelin Nordic Winter tyre in the UK.

@ninalanyon I gather that you are talking about the original Ilfracombe, across the Bristol Channel from Swansea? .... and not the one near Longreach, in the middle of Australia... XD
ninalanyon · 61-69, T
@walabby Definitely! I think the Queensland one qualifies as far from civilization. If I were driving in that part of the world my Tesla S would not be my first choice of vehicle. I'd probably choose something like a Toyota Landcruiser or Hilux, and I'd definitely have a spare and the necessary tools.

She sounds like she is well prepared for a national emergency if she needs to leave town quickly.
She has clothes for every occasion and she can survive on marshmallows until help (you) arrives.

Too hot here for marshmallows to stay in the car. Even in the trunk I would think. They would melt.
SunshineGirl · 36-40, F
@Jonjdw Our girl runs on marshmallows . .
Most people don't know it's there. You're a step ahead.

and the jack..?

"clobber" = junk?, kit?

witch hazel, is that good for insect bites? I have a few recent ones that are somewhat uncomfortable at the moment!
SunshineGirl · 36-40, F
@GerOttman Yes, there's a jack as well . . I watched a youtube video and I think I could do it with a helping hand 🙂

Clobber = kit.

Witch hazel is a plant extract that acts as an antiseptic and anti-inflammatory. We use it mainly to clean cuts and soothe nettle stings. I'm sure it would be good for insect bites.

Torch? 🔥

Then I remembered where you are. 😁

Times were simpler back then...
Convivial · 26-30, F
@SunshineGirl I think packing is the wrong word....I think left behind is more suitable 🤔
SunshineGirl · 36-40, F
@Convivial Accumulating, hoarding . . dad would definitely have drawn the line at the yoga mat 🧘‍♀
Convivial · 26-30, F
@SunshineGirl I don't know, make it more comfortable laying under the car on a cold day on the side of the road 🤔
Sure thing pedro
Convivial · 26-30, F
Put the cd on to a usb stick you can play in the car... Actually... Spice girls?... Forget that idea🤣
Convivial · 26-30, F
@SunshineGirl ... And this is where we part company😜
SunshineGirl · 36-40, F
@Convivial I'm relying upon the next generation to effect a much deserved revival . . as soon as we can listen to the damned thing.
Convivial · 26-30, F
@SunshineGirl in sure she knows how...
