Luxury crops like almonds legendarily use obscene amounts of water. It's a bigger conversation than just pot.

@CountScrofula ok well thanks for the info. Id like to see if there is any correlation between almond farming and the current droughts across the U.S.
CountScrofula · 41-45, M
@exchrist I'd say its more accurate that during a shortage, rich people get priority access to resources, and the rest of us get the leftovers. Almond farming may contribute to droughts but idk if it doesn't rain the question of who gets the water is really the first thing.
exchrist · 31-35
@CountScrofula definitely. I blame corn most and the lack of planning within the growing cannabis market. Also hydroponics is holding onto lots of water. Leading to more extreme drought.

And with Trump in office we will likely start seeing Cuyahoga River incidents again where water sources literally catch on fire from waste dumping.

Your recipe is going to grossly over water your plants dude. Go ahead though see what happens

Sounds like another global crisis to me. Us humans need that water to survive too.
jehova · 31-35, M
@Fungirlmmm thats what i mean 1 pot plant uses the water 6 ppl would drink on a daily basis. Also all these high potency buds are a fad? Its bad for the water supply.

@jehova It takes around 1,800–1,900 gallons of water to produce one pound of beef. This includes the water needed to grow the grass, hay, and grain that cattle eat, as well as the water used in processing and packaging.
Seems like cutting back on beef would save a lot more water.

@ElwoodBlues its a multifacetted problem. And scale is a concern. My point is that the new water requirements of marijuana is alot very quickly. Balance will take time.
exchrist · 31-35
According to research, a cannabis plant consumes around 22.7l (or 6 gallons) of water per day during the growing season, which takes place from June to October.

How to skip a million problems of water wastage and end up at plants wasting water
DownTheStreet · 56-60, M
And where does the water go? It’s fractionally absorbed. Same with Avocados
jehova · 31-35, M
Using so much water leads to drought. Drought causes wildfires.
I think that would be helpful
Roundandroundwego · 61-69
No. That's as actually impressive.
TheOneyouwerewarnedabout · 46-50, MVIP
dont it rain there?..
basilfawlty89 · 31-35, M
You don't need water to grow marijuana if you're using aeroponomics.
Also why the focus on cannabis?
Hemp can be used for a lot of things.
Resources for feeding animals for meat consumption take far more.

@basilfawlty89 that uses water more efficiently? It still involves some water?
exchrist · 31-35
@basilfawlty89 yes hemp would be great! Especilly industrially for fuel.
basilfawlty89 · 31-35, M
@exchrist aeroponics uses a small amount of water mist and nutrient spray.
