Is American hard to translate to other languages ?

American English is a combination of many world languages and therefore Not a natural language as many of it's words are slang terms from German , Latin ,Greek & Great Britain

Some of the sayings have to be explained because simple translation does not explain it well enough.

Americaneze can be rather hard to translate. Besides the Homonyms (ever gave a date to your date?), Americaneze contains many idioms. While the words of an idiom may translate, the intent may not (like snot through a goose). Since Americans are a tad lazy and their Americaneze shows it. If they can't spell 'through' correctly they simply shorten it to 'thru' and call it a new word. Of course, having spent 14 years in school trying to learn it, I could care less about it.
