@CorvusBlackthorne It has nothing to do with prophecy and basic common sense. Putin didn't stay in power for 20 years being an idiot.

Many people figured it would not turn hot because only a total idiot gives their opponent 8 years to prepare for the possibility of an invasion and then when you do invade announce your intentions a month in advance. It also doesn't make sense from the standpoint of his objectives. Russia might be able to take Ukraine but they don't have the means to hold it. That is simply math. There are also much more effective ways to accomplish the same goals in more effective ways with plausible deniability and no risk of WW3 in the process. The move that made sense would be a coup like what the US state department carried out in Ukraine in 2014. Astro turf a domestic protest turned coup and install your own people. Let people vote but make sure the local government knows if they don't follow your line they will be run out of the country like Yanukovich. Basically the US colour revolution strategy. Instead Putin went and did what the US did in the pre WW2 era mostly with over military invasions and coups (and still does occasionally).


There is much speculation that Putin has either a mental illness or a physical one that has become an issue more recently and frankly it is the most likely explanation for him suddenly going both stupid and crazy.
