Getting increasingly impossible. Events require electronic ticket confirmations on your cellphone, medical appointments want QR code on your confirmation, everyone wants your cellphone number as your primary number and don't believe you don't have a cellphone. Childhood back on the ranch where all you could hear was the bawling of cattle and your only contact with the outside world was a full-fledged radio on tubes connected to a car battery had its advantages.

If I could, I would.
Once upon a time, people worked outside while it was daylight and they could see.
They used candles and kerosene lamps to see at night and it was not wasted.
I suppose some things were a bit harder... icebox instead of fridge, but even that wasn't the worst.
An outhouse is something many now find horrible, but it was a way of life. lol As a teen, an outhouse was our bathroom still and it was a bit rough in winter, but not the worst thing.
Off grid... stop everyone from forcing me to buy their services even if I don't need them... or want them.
Would we be surprised at how productive our days really become if we live that way and have no internet and social media to take away from daily living?
And how about a cow or two, some chickens and taking care of our own needs a lot more than we do now? I'd love the space for a garden of veggies and fruit that I can can and store for winter months.
For me...it seems those days are gone. I really miss them!

@SW-User You could use solar energy and even use solar power for the water well pumps to harvest your water. Having some livestock is looking very attractive these days, with the rising cost of food and future uncertainties.
Tastyfrzz 路 61-69, M
My aunt did that in the house my mom grew up in. They had a small two story out on the prairie. Had an outhouse an a windmill. The ground stayed very cold so the well was their refrigerator too. They heated the house with wood. Had cows, pigs and chickens and a big garden. Stove was a wood burner with a big tank on the side for heating water. A pail of water and a big dipper was out on the porch.
They slept upstairs. She lived into her late nineties as did the rest of the family.

We are low key preppers. We could live off grid at the farm easily. We had a big generator out there for years, but now we are also solar. We have just about everything out there we need.

Fun and games until you need urgent medical care.
@CrazyMusicLover ever so true.. even in this small town i live in the hospitals are 15 miles down to the next town and are like walking into a time warp of the 1960s . i would go to nebraska and that would be 90 miles to the nearest good hospital . and you live where you can afford to live.
CrazyMusicLover 路 31-35
@Tastyfrzz That's true, also depending on the country, make sure you have enough money to be able to afford treatment. I guess some people making a living off of people's donations on social media can earn decent money but the question is to what degree it's truly off-grid then.

Always my dream

@fernie2 I would have never guessed that.
@TheArbitrator how come?
Tastyfrzz 路 61-69, M
With a new electric truck with outlets and solar panels I can see that you could live pretty good out in the woods. Putting in a power line now is like $200 a foot. I just had mine buried last year but that was just from the road to the pole to get it out of the trees.
TheArbitrator 路 36-40, M
@markansas Awesome setup. I'm hoping to set something like that up by next year.

Looking more attractive by the day
ravenwind43 路 51-55, F
I've done it before on a temporary basis. It was a challenge and a fun experience, but I don't think I'd want to live like that all the time. However I know that I could do it if I had to:)
TheArbitrator 路 36-40, M
@ravenwind43 Wow, I'd love to hear about that experience.
ravenwind43 路 51-55, F
@TheArbitrator Sure that's not a problem
i am in the process of doing that now so if you can you will save money in elec. bills. go solar and wind. and lots of battery s

The idea is intriguing, but I don't think its something I could actually do 馃様

Love the thought of it. Don鈥檛 think I could ever pull it off though.

It's great if you're wealthy enough to afford usable land anywhere these days.

@MethDozer Land is too freakin' high these days.
