Are older people (76 -100 ) age always right? If they insult you in a subtle way do you tend to be humble and change or do you get offended?

Of course they're not always right. If anybody "insults me in a subtle way," whether they're 10 or 100 - like the rest of my prideful race, I get hurt and resentful (subtly) but I TRY to always consider, when my feathers stop being ruffled, whether they have a point and there is an opportunity for improvement.
TessDun · 36-40, F
@Mamapolo2016 Thanks for saying this. Insults are always hurtful even if it is from a parent I feel it is not motivated by love. They make me either more withdrawn and keep everything inside until I explode or insult them back specially if I feel attacked instead of being corrected.
@TessDun Sometimes it helps me to remember the resentful looks I get when I try to offer 'constructive criticism' to people younger than I am (and most are, these days). My point is, we ARE a prideful race and we DO resent it when someone implies we are "doing it wrong."

Sometimes we ARE wrong. We can be proud and explode or we can learn the right way. There's no shame in making a mistake - the shame comes when we KEEP making the same mistake because we think we're perfect.

No, they are not always right. I personally don’t take insults from anyone. However, the elderly have to be given some leeway at times. Now that I’m in my 60s, I understand how it is to be old, and I’m more grumpy now than I’ve ever been. It will probably get worse, so you have to play it by ear, and while not tolerating abuse from anyone, it’s also good to be understanding of why they may be impatient with you, and give them a pass.
TessDun · 36-40, F
@Carissimi Thanks for the input. I'll try to be more understanding, though sometimes it is challenging to let it pass, specially if the insult is something too personal or something like criticizing me for something I am not capable at the moment but struggling to be. I do understand that I should be more patient, but sometimes I cannot help comparing other people at same age who are gentler and comforting and think that the insulting one is really so against me.
Carissimi · 70-79, F
It’s a judgment call. While it’s good to be understanding, don’t tolerate abuse. @TessDun

No. When people try to insult me, I don’t have any more time or thoughts to spare them.
TessDun · 36-40, F
@SW-User It is hard to avoid specially if they are family, but it also makes me not to care too much and be less sensitive as a result. Now trying to practice the art of being withdrawn inside but still engaging on the outside.
SW-User
@TessDun I think the trick of it is to understand that their combinations of words that are meant as insults don’t mean anything relevant.
Ryannnnnn · 31-35, M
Not really. A lot of people only know life from the perspective of their time.
TessDun · 36-40, F
@Ryannnnnn Yah thanks for pointing that out. Time is different now.
Zeusdelight · 61-69, M
No one is always right
TessDun · 36-40, F
@Zeusdelight But they have more experience, so I hope to learn from them, but not by insulting me
Zeusdelight · 61-69, M
@TessDun They should know better than to insult anyone asking questions.
TessDun · 36-40, F
@Zeusdelight True :/
DeluxedEdition · 26-30, F
No, they are not always effing right! Although I respect my elders that doesn’t give the right to insult or abuse you. and I just tell them not to talk to me like that. I’m a human being with the same feelings you have.

(I’m a cna 😑😓)
whowasthatmaskedman · 70-79, M
Side Note.. Never try to insult an American in a subtle way. they probably wont get it. 😷
whowasthatmaskedman · 70-79, M
@bijouxbroussard And as individuals I would be among the first to agree with you. The Best of Americans are still the Best. Equally the worst of Americans are as bad as any I have seen. But in the lower quartile there is this solid voting block that believes all you need to do to be great is be American and wave a flag while carrying a gun. And that is almost solely American. Thick as two short planks and ignorant as 💩. 😷

And at least two of your countrymen on this very site have expressed solid agreement with them. Oz has its share.
whowasthatmaskedman · 70-79, M
@bijouxbroussard Indeed we do. But we tend not to elect them. Although.......
This guy has "decided not to recontest the next election"

No, they are not always right of course. I don’t argue with them in fear of giving them a heart attack. Lol
TessDun · 36-40, F
@SW-User And if they get heart attack I'll be the one to blame, now I'm worried😫
Nelladell · 80-89, F
@SW-User Yeah. Best be careful there. HEH.
Nelladell · 80-89, F
Of course we make mistakes.
Roadsterrider · 56-60, M
I have the utmost respect for my elders. But an insult is an insult, if I don't think I deserve it, I respectfully point that out. Age, rank, whether you wear a badge or not, doesn't give anyone the right to insult anyone.
TessDun · 36-40, F
@Roadsterrider Yes, this is what I genuinely feel. If it is really offensive it is wrong and there are no excuses for it.
scorpiolovedeep · 46-50, M
Age doesn’t mean they are wiser , mature and can say anything they like.

Inner growth is powerful than outer growth…
TessDun · 36-40, F
@scorpiolovedeep Agreed on this. I was expecting older people figure it out more how to be good human being on the inside.
scorpiolovedeep · 46-50, M
Only the people who put a conscious and intentional effort to do so , have better judgement in life and can pass on valuable advice to younger generation 🙏@TessDun
No, nobody’s always right, and older people are just as capable of being mistaken as anyone. How I react depends largely on my relationship with the person. If it’s one of my older family members, for example, I’m not pleased but out of respect I tend to let it roll off my back.
TessDun · 36-40, F
@bijouxbroussard Yah agree. With older family member it stings I just try to stay quiet and not mind it and hopefully let it go after a lot bit of self-talk. I talk back too when I feel I have to.
wildbill83 · 36-40, M
I try to be more patient with them...

After all, they're old as shit, and probably suffer from senility, dementia, Alzheimer's, etc. 🤔
ozgirl512 · 26-30, F
Nope... No one is ever all ways right!

They will have a different perspective from you....
AngelKrish · 26-30, M
I clearly fight back...and strongly stand on my opinion!
SW-User
No, there are plenty of numpties in all age groups
antonioioio · 70-79, M
Nobody is always right regardless of age
MarkPaul · 26-30, M
I'm humble and respectful.
TessDun · 36-40, F
@MarkPaul Good for you :)
Old people these days.
TessDun · 36-40, F
@Jabulani Yes😅
A POS is a POS at any age.
ChipmunkErnie · 70-79, M
I know I'm not always right, but I'm not always wrong, either -- which is the attitude some youngster barely out of puberty on here take to anyone older than they are. :)
Myocite · F
I don't know but I CAN say thank you about your definition of OLDER! I'm 56 and don't feel old!!!
No, they're NOT always right.
I usually don't get offended if they insult me.
REMsleep · 41-45, F
Age is just a number. If anyone insults me then of course I would probably be offended.
I learn just as much from younger as I do from older people. I just learn different things from each.
I give a little more leeway to my elders and you could call that a form of respect but it depends on who they are and what they are saying just like everyone else
