Once a day... Depends on the prison they're in.
Daily but the prisons are overcrowded so I dont think that happens. Some may need to shower more than once a day if the have specific needs that require them to.

Minimum in Texas is it’s offered 3 days a week. Most jails though offer it daily. Except for people in lockdown. They get the minimum.
cherokeepatti · 61-69, F
@JesseInTX I believe I heard them say they have 1600 inmates at the jail.
JesseInTX · 51-55, M
@cherokeepatti I’m not sure about Oklahoma’s jail standards. Close to where I live is the 3rd largest county jail system in the country. Around 11,000 inmates.
cherokeepatti · 61-69, F
@JesseInTX I don’t know what’s going on with them. They contracted out the care of the jail last summer due to the way it was being managed and it’s not any better. I think the budget is way too low for one thing. And they need to separate the violent offenders and put them off in another building away from this jail. Kind of like a super max jail. One of the correctional officers spoke out on Dr. Phil because of the suicides going on there.

@SW-User The Oklahoma County Jail hasn’t let the inmates have a shower in two weeks. Imagine what that large jail smells like? I can’t even imagine being a guard at that jail much less an inmate. They had a hostage situation with a guard being taken hostage over the weekend and a jail inmate was killed. The jail was having problems for years and let a trust take it over last summer and it has gotten much worse since then.

@cherokeepatti thats wrong
Bluesky1962 · 61-69, M
@SW-User daily or the guards would avoid being around the inmates,
Quetzalcoatlus · 46-50, M
At least once a day. Good hygiene makes for less medical expenses to the public. And safer for correction employees..
cherokeepatti · 61-69, F
@Quetzalcoatlus Yes it is. I can’t even imagine what that jail is smelling like, probably a combo of ass, stinky feet, fungus & rancid sweat.

@cherokeepatti I believe it’s every 3 days, rotating schedules for security .

most need to gargle more times than they need a shower

Daily. Prison shouldn’t be an excuse to treat people like animals.
hunkalove · 61-69, M
@SW-User Jail isn't prison.

SW-User
@hunkalove My answer is the same in either case.
Every day. The last time I was down county, I was surprised to find naughty fold outs on the walls of the shower stalls. Now that is true compassion!
cherokeepatti · 61-69, F
@puck61 I agree
FloorGenAdm · 51-55, M
Don't bend over to pick up the soap. 🧼
StraCat · 41-45, M
Once a day is fine.
StraCat · 41-45, M
@cherokeepatti That's just inhumane. No matter the crime. These are just basic needs.
cherokeepatti · 61-69, F
@assemblingaknob I don’t know but they have had problems with that jail since it was built.Structural problems and prisoners stuffing the toilets and clogging and overflowing sewage all the way down to the bottom floor for example. Prisoners escaping out the windows using bedsheets. It was designed poorly and also has been managed poorly since it was built.
cherokeepatti · 61-69, F
@StraCat There was a police chase that went through 2 counties and ended up not far from here, it lasted for over 2 hours. When the police finally caught the guy they asked why he came here instead of dragging the chase out so long. He said he knew he’d be arrested and he didn’t want to stay in the Oklahoma County Jail because of bedbugs and cadavers...apparently they have a problem with both. He said if someone died in the jail they’d put the body on a stretcher and leave it for many hours to be collected & taken to the morgue. So now every time the OKC County Jail gets on the news & I just think “Bedbugs & Cadavers”.
hunkalove · 61-69, M
I would think once a week is enough. Unless they're out breakin' rocks in the hot sun. Then twice a week. And no soap droppin'!
cherokeepatti · 61-69, F
@hunkalove a person in a warm cell who sweats can get a fungus if they don’t shower regularly...foot fungus, jock itch etc. I guess if they have a washcloth & a bar of soap they could take a sink bath but not the same as a real shower and rinsing off the soap.
TurtlePink · 22-25, F
Whenever they want I guess.
cherokeepatti · 61-69, F
@TurtlePink that’s not gonna work, it has to be a schedule or otherwise inmates will be running off together to “shower”.
TurtlePink · 22-25, F
@cherokeepatti if I ever had to go to prison or jail, they're gonna have to change some rules because I love my bath and shower time.
cherokeepatti · 61-69, F
@TurtlePink Haha you have a lot to learn little missy. It’s not your way or the highway in prison.

@Cutiepi23 A 3-day riot happened in Oklahoma and one of the biggest factors was infrequent showering and they had to buy their own soap. At least let them have some basic soap, nothing fancy.
Longpatrol · 31-35, M
Every day hopefully. Officers have to work with the stinky bastards otherwise
cherokeepatti · 61-69, F
