@NoahB I think it is up to personal preferences. I own a rifle but I don't find it cool. I think swords are better but of course not good enough for protection nowadays.
Reason why I prefer swords is because they are less desensitizing and more personal, and they have the chance to defend themselves. I also hate the sound of gunshots.

Our gun laws are way too lax.
Completing a Gun safety training class should be mandatory before anyone is allowed to buy a gun. A background check and waiting period should be required for gun purchases. Military-grade guns such as the AR-15 and AK-47 should be banned.

Nah. Guns are bad and a waste of money and our love affair with them is dysfunctional to the extreme. They are nothing more than a case of False Advertising that entirely too many people have fallen into the trap of. See they are advertised as providing protection who's going to stop the burglar who breaks into your home while the police are on the way? But the truth is statistically if you buy a gun the people you live with are going to know about it and you're more likely to get into a nasty altercation and fight with them and wellah, you get shot with your own weapon.
Guns don't make use more safe, they rob us of safety and are an unnecessary risk that entirely too many people have been hoodwinked into taking.
The Gun manufacturers should be sued into having to close their doors for false advertising.

@NoahB I support civilan gun ownership, I just want screening laws to prevent dangerous unfit people (the mentally ill, criminals, drug users, alcoholics) from buying guns, and a ban on military-grade weapons (AR-15, AR-10, AK-47, etc.) sales to civilians.
For years I owned a .38 revolver and a 20-gauge pump shotgun. I believe those civilian-type guns are fully adequate for home protection, and I never felt any need for a military-grade weapon such as an AR-15.

@PDXNative1986 I'm going to have to disagree with you on this. Some mentally ill people have paranoid delusions causing them to feel others are out to get them. It is very dangerous for such people to have access to guns. Examples include the Sandy Hook shooter, a clasic paranoid schizophrenic. And the mass shooter in the Las Vegas killed 60 people for no know reason.

Both the Harvard Gun Study and the UN Gun study demonstrated that higher amounts of gun ownership result in lower amounts of violent crime.
Homicides are considered violent crime.
Neither the UN nor Harvard are bastions of gun toting conservatives. Quite the opposite. They were trying to show that more gun ownership lead to more crime but got the data showed exactly the opposite.
