In your opinion, is humanity headed in the right or wrong direction?

BlueVeins · 22-25 Best Comment
Overall, it's headed in the right direction. Global poverty, child marriage, autocracy, and warfare have all been generally decreasing throughout the past hundred years or so, and there's reason to believe these trends will continue. We are doing very serious damage to the biosphere though, and the way we've distributed the wealth we've been creating is fairly questionable.

Exactly my thoughts.
I do acknowledge the fact that some things are definitely wrong. But we are doing much better than we did, say 100 years ago. Overall, we are slowly but surely improving.
And in regards to the biosphere and our environment, yes we are damaging it to a great extent, but we are informed about this issue more than ever before, which is a positive thing.

@Maeve19 Which would be great if world government responses didn't range from pretending to care but doing almost nothing to actively denying the problem. 🤦‍♂️😭

By the time they start taking action, it will be undoubtedly too late

The quality of life increases every where, over time. With the exception of Africa and a few extremely poor Asian countries like Myanmar, Vietnam and Mongolia, economic development is seen to be occuring everywhere, however slow. The problems of malnutrition and disease continue to plague poorer nations, but the world in general, has made it easy to supply essentials where the paucity calls for a surfeit. But humans in general are moving further and further from their natural state; a lot of developed countries have a huge aversion to violence and prioritise their own safety over any other. The natural instinct to survive has shifted its dependence from toughness to neutralising man's nature to defend himself physically. The reason people are safe today is not because they can defend themselves, its because they're too safe and protected by their governments. Men are becoming less masculine and women less feminine. This isn't necessarily a bad thing. But these trends are unmissable. Religion has been altered to suit practicality, so that how we act controls religion instead of religion controlling how we act. Which is necessary, because religion is an instrument. Terrorism has yet to be eradicated. The next issues will be AI, cyber crime, biological warfare (as we can see it already is), global warming and running out of natural resources, unless they're used sustainably.
As for my answer, I decline to comment. Humanity is heading in a certain direction, whether that's right or wrong, is subjective

Wrong. World responses to Covid-19 surely suggest this. I've said elsewhere I've really run out of faith in humanity. Hope I'm wrong, truly.
Elessar · 26-30, M
@PhilDeep 👆️ 100% agree with this.
MasterLee · 56-60, M
Definitely took a wrong turn. Liberals bit of too much.
MasterLee · 56-60, M
@Elessar is it?

@MasterLee what? I’m saying the Dems are still nibbling.. (biting off too much)!
Elessar · 26-30, M
@MasterLee Yep.
I mean it is pretty much headed in the right direction but it's happening so slowly that we'll never really get there, global warming will kill us first.
Unlearn · 41-45, M
We took the wrong turn long ago...
luckranger71 · 51-55, M
In the right direction when looking at the long arc of history. The world is a better place than it was in 1800, 1900 or 1950. The Western nations have had a regression backwards for about the last 5 years, but that often happens. The graph is never a straight line upwards.
Ian123 · 61-69, M
I’m sure we are heading the right way, there may be hiccups but it’s not so bad 👍
🤔 I wouldn’t look at direction for a species as right or wrong. That maybe an argument for the religious.

But in the context of collective advancement and betterment, maybe effective or ineffective would probably be better terms.

We are effective in some objectives and goals. And we are ineffective in others

We also have to remember that a few words can also be ineffective to describe a situation as well.
GuyWithOpinions · 31-35, M
we have been speeding down the wrong road for a long time with no brakes and not looking.
ClanNaFiacaillApWythe · 51-55, M
People are headed in various directions, some better than others.

In my humble opinion, the planet can’t take much more of us humans.
I think we’re fundamentally flawed in wanting more than we should have, living beyond the years that nature intended - and that we’re both social and territorial at the same time.

The same path it's always taken. Neither right nor wrong, but one of mistakes made and sometimes learned from the first time, sometimes not.
RedBaron · M
There is only one direction: forward. There is no right or wrong about it. Individuals and groups make mistakes, but none are attributable to all of humanity.
Nika2002 · 22-25, F
Definitely the wrong direction. A mass die-off approaches. Seconds to midnight on the big clock.

too late for that. Humans are actually doomed as a species. 👽️

It’s so obvious we are on the down slope and the end is very near!
Tukudo · 41-45, M
No right, No wrong! But headed out of nature!😐
AnthroKenj · 36-40, M
It’s headed in a direction. Always has been.
In my opiniin... we're figuring it out as we go

Been a downward spiral for a long time

We aren't exactly unified in our directionality.

Definitely not the right one

Since I live in the West, I feel like it's the wrong direction. But of course, there are other places that will fill in the void.
