Overall, it's headed in the right direction. Global poverty, child marriage, autocracy, and warfare have all been [i]generally[/i] decreasing throughout the past hundred years or so, and there's reason to believe these trends will continue. We are doing very serious damage to the biosphere though, and the way we've distributed the wealth we've been creating is fairly questionable.

Exactly my thoughts.
I do acknowledge the fact that some things are definitely wrong. But we are doing much better than we did, say 100 years ago. Overall, we are slowly but surely improving.
And in regards to the biosphere and our environment, yes we are damaging it to a great extent, but we are informed about this issue more than ever before, which is a positive thing.
