Usually apartments for sale, at least in the US, are referred to as condos, duplexes or triplexes, or multi-family homes.
You might have better luck using those search terms.

Plenty for sale back where I'm from (Cape Cod). I considered buying one when my parents recently moved, but it just didn't make sense with how rarely I'd be there.

Maybe because there are more houses than apartments in your chosen location.Maybe because people that are single are choosing an apartment over a house.Maybe because an apartment is easier to look after.
@tallpowerhouseblonde yea you are right I think thats the thing there are more family oriented people not single couples and they prefer houses, I do not want to move to a big city that is where all the apartments are in the small town i live in there are only apartments for rent. it is going to take me a while to save up for a mortgage, a giant house that I wont even use until i get married. i just dont like it. renting apartments is too much of a money maker, actually i found apartment buildings for sale, not something i can afford either.

Apartments are by definition things you rent or lease (to buy it, you have to buy the building).
An apartment which you can buy is a condominium ("condo",for shortl in the US, but you must
- expect to pay houselike prices for onlynan apartment, and
- expect a condominium association fee which is paid to take care of common areas, pay the property managers, etc.
Some homes are rental homes or leases, sometimes with options to buy.
Mobile homes are a weird combination: you own the home but rent the land and have association fees.

@XDHyperGirlXD1 Here in England council tenants get the right to buy after renting a propert for 3 years.A big discount is given but the tennant cannot sell out straight away they have to wait 3 years.

I have seen condos for sale, but never heard of apartments for sale... more of a rental type property out west.
