Both are in the wrong. I wrote a post about it yesterday, but I'll tell you the short and skinny.
https://similarworlds.com/734031-I-Hate-War/3116010-Yesterday-the-Iran-US-conflict-was-thrust-into-the
The US has extremely bad crimes against Iran under its belt from the '50s through '80s, primarily the 1953 coup and Iran-Iraq war. And in recent years, the US has done some hawkish and cruel things to Iran and the people with whom Iran sympathizes, such as supporting Israel in their human rights violations against the Palestinians, destabilizing the Levant through direct military intervention, fueling the genocidal coalition campaign in Yemen, running joint military drills in and around the Strait of Hormuz, flying drones in or near Iran, leaving the JCPOA, and passing illegal medical sanctions against the Islamic Republic. The US also might be supporting the PJAK in secret, but the evidence for that is very slim.
Iran has also done a lot of really bad shit (even outside of their repressive domestic policy), such as supporting Hamas in Palestine, the Assad regime in Syria, the Houthis in Yemen, and the Special Groups in Iraq. Iran has also destroyed foreign oil tankers on multiple occasions, flown drones near US ships, and attacked Saudi oil fields.
Neither one is in the right. Both countries should go to the UN to get this shit sorted out.

The Iran people are good and just want peace
The leadership in Iran might not represent the peoples desires
Iran has no military threat or ability to put a threat together.
The United States and Allies can confront anything Irans military attempts
The United States have no invasion assets anywhere near Iran ... or is likely to do so.
Yet, talking heads want people to believe there is military parity of some sort ... an imminent violence .... which is exasperating turmoil
And worrying people needlessly

@questionWeaver Very likely, the U.S. military will defeat Iran's regular army. though it won't be like Iraq. Iran has an army of 350,000. the U.S. Will suffer significant causalities.
After the war, as we have seen in Iraq and Afghanistan, will come the guerrilla war; a long, drawn-out, frustrating conflict of IED's, snipers, ambushes, with no victory, no resolution. Since 2003, the U.S. military has been unable to stop the guerrilla war in Iraq. We are stuck in a quagmire, a war of slow attrition, a few Americans killed each month, costing $100s of billions, and it just drags on and on, slowly draining our resources. That's what will happen in Iran, only bigger.

@badminton nutty analysis

The radical islamists love Democrats, the shade they provide , and their money ... I suspect the average citizen in Iran is more in line with Trump .., wanting peace and prosperity .

@badminton Overlooking of course:
The Boston Marathon Bombing
The San Bernardino shooters
The Pulse Nightclub shooter.
Those were all inspired by ISIS and all occurred under the Obama administration.

@SumKindaMunster I would not call those large-scale attacks, certainly not like 9/11.

@badminton I didn't say they were, but wanted to note it as your original statement was misleading.

The relationship hasn't been good for the last 40 years. I feel bad as I don't believe the theocracy in control represents the will of the majority of Iranians.
SumKindaMunster · 51-55, M
I'm withholding judgement until some time passes.
I will say I am not worried about the Iranian response, nor World War 3, nor the reinstatement of the draft.

It's 2020 and not 1979.

We have not been friends since 1979 when they invaded our embassy and took 52 American Citizens prisoner for 444 days.

I hope nothing happens.. my bf is in the military and I’m worried

It's complicated. And will be more so. 😒

It was never going to work out.
Quimliqer · 70-79, M
Definitely tenuous at this point!!
yeronlyman · 51-55, M
It’s far far more complex than military action...
Estimates of 250,000 civilians deaths since the start of the US war on terror...
Dialogue needs to be the backbone of any solution...

I am happy as long as it brings the stock market down a little for the next couple of days. My puts needs profits.

Are you persian? You look like you might be!
AthrillatheHunt · 51-55, M
Persians aren’t middle eastern. But in my experience, both Iranians and Palestinians are Muslims in name only. Not very religious at all (along with Lebanese and Moroccans)@MntoNc

Just a guess but I got a feeling that they should back off, Iran that is, I am afraid that the Trump guy means what he says and if they retaliate he will hit them hard.
Picklebobble2 · 56-60, M
It's a tough one.
I mean action now when they probably should have done it 40 years ago is hard to get your head around.

Queeen · 26-30, F
@Picklebobble2 you mean war is the correct thing to do?
Picklebobble2 · 56-60, M
@Queeen 40 years ago ? YES !
It would have made sense.
Direct reprisals for the taking of U.S. hostages shortly after the Shah's expulsion.
I'm not one for supporting American foreign policy.
Too many times America picks the wrong side just to shore-up it's own 'vested interests'.
But imagine if America had hit back and destroyed the Mullah's soon after they seized power in Iran.
Would we have seen all the conflict in that region everyday since ?
You have to wonder.

It should be much better. We should be buddies. Saudi Arabia is a big reason we are not.
