Why do people strive to make being overweight seem like a good thing?

Why would you not strive to be healthy?
I’m not referring to people with legit medical conditions.

It is possible to be somewhat over weight and still be healthy...there are people who are larger than average, they do exercise and watch whet they eat as well as monitor themselves with physician help. They just can't seem to take much or all of the weight off. And of course there are ones who have medical conditions, but not going there because you said that's not what you wanted to hear. THAT is the real reason behind body acceptance...to learn to like/
love themselves as they are, and to stand against the prejudice (as well as the ridicule and cruelty) out there. The problem is that the bigots formed an immediate and strong backlash, and the people who do over eat and are lazy started using it as an excuse to justify their unhealthy lifestyles (which only fuels the negativity).

im not shaming anyone as I’ve said in other comments body type plays a roll but everyone should strive to be healthy.

@Soramarie Agreed, and I didn't say that you were...but as you can see from some replies to your post as well as replies to other similar posts, the problem exists. I'm just saying that if we are sincerely a society and culture that teaches/ believes in/practices understanding, non-judgmentalism, and acceptance of different people as they are...then a person's looks and weight should not be one of the remaining acceptable prejudices. People come in all shapes and sizes, and that should have no bearing on who they are as a person.

this is new to me.

But, a focus on weight without looking at other elements of health it a bit misguided.

One can be very muscular and heavy without being obese.

But, one can have very little muscle and have too much fat on board.
Soramarie · 26-30, F
just being healthy is the important part. Body type plays a huge roll. But eating in moderation and getting up for some part of the day is big as well.
Doomflower · 36-40, M
@JoeyFoxx too much muscle can also be nearly as dangerous as too much fat. Muscle requires a lot of blood vessels and if you're carrying an extra 40 lbs of muscle your heart has to pump to deal with that. It still strain the heart.

@Doomflower agreed

Its becoming more socially acceptable to be overweight and unhealthy, and lazy people dont wanna put any work into staying thin and healthy... alot of them will pay the price when they get older, and alot of us will pay the price through higher healthcare prices
Soramarie · 26-30, F
its sad. It’s a daily struggle but so is life.
Doomflower · 36-40, M
It's hard.

Deciding to change is the easy part. Then you have to follow through with millions of choices and pick the healthy ones consistently.
Soramarie · 26-30, F
it is hard but you can eat what you want in moderation and just spend 30minutes to an hr doing something. Play the wii, go to the gym, walk, play with your kids, so many options and most require no $
Doomflower · 36-40, M
@Soramarie some people can do that. The psychology of humans is complex. I cannot have bread or other snacks in the house for example because I will wake up and eat in the middle of the night, often with zero memory of doing so. This is despite eating a full 2000 calorie diet.

So I need to work out more. Which makes me hungry so I eat more. So I work out hard so I can keep eating. But if I slack on the working out I get fat fast.
Soramarie · 26-30, F
@Doomflower exactly don’t keep the temptation around. And make a set schedule to work out

I don't know, do they? I think many overweight people have tried (and failed) to lose weight so they would just rather accept who they are.
Soramarie · 26-30, F
i agree but on the other side of this are amputees who are stuck in a chair because they made the same mistakes. Change is hard yes, but it’s an important part of life. When people allow themselves to get in this condition they loose years off their life
Well, you have a spanking fetish, and that's not healthy either. You can get injured from overspanking.
Soramarie · 26-30, F
@LeopoldBloom actually I do not. The entire reason I am on this cite is to find other people who live in a domestic discipline relationship. It has nothing to do with sex in our case.
alan20 · M
Because they enjoy food?
Soramarie · 26-30, F
@alan20 you can enjoy food and still be healthy. I eat what I want and spend 30 minutes to an hr walking or playing with the kiddos outside. You can eat and still be healthy it’s all about portion control and getting off your rear
alan20 · M
@Soramarie Agree.
