More because more people have access to them through the internet 😛

I think it is less. 50 years ago, you had a lot of people alive who grew up when the cheapest form of entertainment, aside from the outdoors, was to read books. And the only source of information was reading.
I'd be interested to know how much reading students in high school had to do 50 years ago.

Define "people", I always get a Martian or two asking me to suggest something educative to read. The answer is always the same - "Big Momma's Spaceships Made Out Of Shovels."
