Do you think cops will still do speed traps now that Google has moved the ways notifications about them over to Google maps?

Everyone is ganna know when there is a cop sitting on the side of the road clocking people. Thank God for Google and hopefully this makes it so much harder for cops.

Yeah, how dare they stop drunk drivers from killing innocent motorists ! 😳
@bijouxbroussard I'm.sure thats what they are doing on the side of the interstate at 2 pm each day
@Llort Are you sure that they’re not ?
@bijouxbroussard pretty damn sure.

Besides... You want to catch drunk drivers... Let's be sensable... Put your speed trap by the bars in the area. Bet you'll find a lot more
@Llort Right, no one consumes alcohol anyplace else. But even sober, are you saying that people speeding don’t cause accidents ? I guess I don’t understand the objections. A ticket is an inconvenience, yes. Dying in a crash is well...worse.
@bijouxbroussard and people die from getting hit on the side of the road from slow plows are going way slower than the limit *local story happened a week ago*

I'm sorry, I can't justify cops enforcing silly speed limit laws out of fear of something possibly happening.

I speed every day. I'm on the road everyday for hours. No accidents. Never.

The people who are white knuckling it and are scared to drive 5 over are the people are usually cause accidents imo
@Llort Only in the opinion of those driving too fast, when they can’t stop in time.

@bijouxbroussard I can say there are some speed limits that are set way too high and others set way too low, though, due to overly general laws. In Ohio, there are roads with a speed limit of 55 where it should be 40 or even 35 in the country. There are also roads in Ohio where the speed limit is 30 or 35 when it should be 45.
@33person Our highways tend to be 65 mph, with 70 understood. When I used to drive I was left in the dust at 75, by folks going 90 and beyond. Cal trans workers get struck and killed by people going too fast to be able to stop suddenly.

@bijouxbroussard Yeah, on the freeways here in my part of Ohio, 65 is the highest speed limit, but in slightly more rural areas, they just changed the law in 2013 to make it 70 there. Needless to say, the left lane is filled with people who drive much too fast and way too close to the car in front of them. Which is scary on the rare occasion that you have an exit on the left.
Any time traffic stops suddenly, I put on the hazard flashers and just hope for the best.

Yeah, use that in your defence. It'll work..Really. Just as saying you can't justify any number of traffic laws being enforced..It's okay, YOU don't need to.
@HerKing if I think a law is stupid and unjustified I can expresses that opinion. And usually I try to do so without trying to put others down or trying to smear em.

But hey you do you and feel free to expresses whatever opinions you have.
@33person crappy drivers will be crappy drivers. No speed limit will change that. I would have to fact check myself on this, but I think I remember that the majority of accidents happen within a mile of someone's home.

I guess it's always possible that a large amount of those could be on an Express way, but I think the handful.of anecdotes shouldn't be the cause of stricter laws.
33person · 26-30, M
@Llort It really depends on the enforcing of the laws. For example, I am poor af now, so fines motivate me to drive slower than I would if I had all the money in the world. One speeding ticket would be more than the money I have to my name.
@33person why can't more people converse like you? Ffs.

I'm broke too, but I still speed. Not in neighborhoods. Not in school zones.

Catch me on the highway and I'm always doing 20 over. Never had an accident. Clean driving record.

But personally my biggest irritation is having a line of cars all go break lights suddenly just because a cop is parked on the side of the road. Everyone is speeding. Maybe the problem isn't the rate at which traffic is moving... Maybe it's more of a problem with the laws as they stand
33person · 26-30, M
@Llort "why can't more people converse like you"
Can you elaborate on that point? You're not the first person to say that to me, but I've never really known what people mean by it.

I think it really depends on whether you're going with the flow of traffic or not. For example, if the speed limit is 55 and traffic is going 70, then go 70. They can't pull everyone over, and driving is not the time to be standing out.
On the other hand, driving is not the time to be standing out. So if traffic is going 60, don't be doing 85.
@33person I mean it's nice to have someone that would rather discuss something instead of attacking you when people disagree... Thank you for that.

It's nice to see maturity online. Mutual respect. Even when you don't like what someone else is saying.

And yeah common sense should be applied more often. Everywhere, honestly.

But personally I do believe if we were allowed to use more common sense instead of having to follow excessive speeding laws, it would be better
33person · 26-30, M
@Llort I think I've just never had authority over anyone, so I am not used to scolding and attacking. I interact with other people the way kids interact with each other, to an extent.

But anyway, I think we'd be better off if speed limit laws were more catered to the specific road, and I think police officers should not have quotas so that they aren't enforcing it all at the end of the month. If there is going to be a law to enforce, it shouldn't be a money-making endeavor, but a safety precaution.
@33person uhhh I've heard the quota thing is a myth. In il at least, they passed law saying police cannot have quotas and it turned out that less then 10 cities had them, and they were all small rural towns that couldn't afford to keep more than two cops on payroll without tickets and other fines.
33person · 26-30, M
@Llort Idk if it's a myth or not. I just know that the police say they don't enforce the crap out of speed limit laws at the end of the month compared to the rest of the time, but we all know they do. I know there is a small historic village half an hour from me which is "dry," so they don't have revenue from any alcohol tax. Therefore, they enforce their speed limits more.
I'm sure the cops bosses are at least motivated to pressure their officers to do things to bring in revenue.

In my city they went around and started ticketing everyone like crazy for out of date plates and parking violations when they never did that before. I'm sure that was a push for money.
33person · 26-30, M
@Llort Out-of-date plates is one of those things that has nothing to do with safety. I don't like the system of plate stickers. I just don't.
Eh... It's kinda like property taxes. It meant to motivate people to do something with assets... Not just let them sit when others could use it... Unfortunately it doesn't work most the time... Ill agree there
33person · 26-30, M
@Llort I just think they could do it and enforce it differently. I'm not against taxation, but I don't like the way it's done here.
Much agreed

Anyway... I feel this conversation has ran it's course

Cheers mate. Hopefully see you around
