Do people who throw out political attacks and slurs seem emotionally troubled to you?

I've noticed a large group of people on both sides of the divide who do that regularly. In any political debate when you know in advance that you can't defend your own position (because you don't have the mental wherewithal or you are too lazy to do your research or you are otherwise ill prepared), you throw out a bomb. It means, generally, that the bomb throwers are very emotionally attached to their own positions but don't have what it takes to defend their ideas in hand to hand.
