What's your take on journaling?

Has it ever been beneficial in your life? What do you like to write about? Do you journal every day using an outline or is it something more spontaneous? And lastly, do you prefer a paper or digital journal? Any thoughts on this matter would be greatly appreciated 😊

Journaling has been beneficial to me, but also was one of my most awful vulnerable abuse moments.

[A partner read mine without permission, ripped a page out and assaulted me by shoving it down my throat giving me a fat lip].

I only digitally journal now.

@Starcrossed Writing out letters to address problems I have with people has been quite beneficial in helping me discover why I feel the way I do and to help see if my feelings are justified or just pent-up steam. I've only used this technique on lovers in the past, but now that you mentioned it. I think it could help a lot to write about other people in my life as well and help me orient my attitude towards them in a positive manner.

@Starcrossed I guess that's what it all boils down to is burying who you really are. Thanks for helping me come to that epiphany and sharing your thoughts! Have an awesome night ^_^

A long time ago I started logging my cycle rides then began adding other things like feelings and events. I've kept a journal now for over 15 years. It has become valuable as a reference for dates and events.

@SageWanderer That's very cool sir! I've journaled myself here and there and love the nostalgia that comes with rereading entries.

I never have journaled. Never leave written evidence of your thoughts. Nothing good ever comes of that.

@TheProphet haha I tend to be quite secretive in nature as well since I know many people can, unfortunately, be tempted to use anything they know against you under the right circumstances. At the same time, however, sometimes a person has to explore their thoughts in order to get their emotional state in order so they can continue to move forward in life. I use to workout for hours on end to do that, but I have come to realize that I was just using that as a means of escape and I was actually avoiding my problems instead of confronting them like I should have. Now that I've seen the destruction in the wake of my past that keeping things bottled up until they eventually either get the best of me by destroying my self-esteem or making me yearn for retribution in a silly manner against those I feel wronged me has caused. I need a healthy way to sort out life's problems so I can confront them to see what their root cause is and deal with them so I never unintentionally hurt anyone or make my life more miserable than it has to be at times. Do you have another way of going about this personally or are you of the mindset that it's a waste of time and focus on other things in life?

@Jester I bwould never reveal my innermost secrets where someone would see them.

@TheProphet Understood and I respect your opinion sir! Thank you for sharing 😊
