What's your take on journaling?

Has it ever been beneficial in your life? What do you like to write about? Do you journal every day using an outline or is it something more spontaneous? And lastly, do you prefer a paper or digital journal? Any thoughts on this matter would be greatly appreciated 😊

Journaling has been beneficial to me, but also was one of my most awful vulnerable abuse moments.

[A partner read mine without permission, ripped a page out and assaulted me by shoving it down my throat giving me a fat lip].

I only digitally journal now.

@Starcrossed You expose yourself and you risk getting fucked. Bad choice.

@Starcrossed I am so sorry to hear you had that terrible experience with such an asshole. I'm glad it has been beneficial to you though. If you don't mind me asking. Do you have an outline you follow for journaling or do you write down what comes to mind instead on any given day?

@Jester I didn't have a bad experience. On the contrary I would never expose my thoughts to public scrutininy.

@TheProphet I feel ya on that! Reflecting on my life though, once I got into stand up comedy I developed a devil may care attitude when it came to people judging me. From my perspective, life is short and so long as nothing is said in blind hatred out of fear or ignorance that is meant to intentionally make somebody who is innocent feel bad then who cares haha

@Jester I don't follow an outline but have thought of it. If/when I ever live alone, I may get a template journal but I am not safe with a printed journal.

I tend to only write as a release to talk out what is going on in my life when pressure builds up and I want someone to talk to but don't feel comfortable with anyone face to face.

Sometimes I'll write letters to people never meant to be sent. Sometimes it's rage, or passion, grief, frustration, sadness, love or lust inspired. I wish I could say my writings could bring a lot of joy to the world, but they're mostly woe is me moans.

I write for the same manner and respect what you do. I think being honest with ourselves through writing is one of the most liberating acts in this world for our minds. If we can't express who we really are or what we really desire, then what's the point of dealing with the everday BS? Everything would be a lie to some extent wouldn't it?
Starcrossed · 41-45, F
@Jester Maybe not entirely everything a lie, but stifling oneself will eventually suffocate you.

@Starcrossed Writing out letters to address problems I have with people has been quite beneficial in helping me discover why I feel the way I do and to help see if my feelings are justified or just pent-up steam. I've only used this technique on lovers in the past, but now that you mentioned it. I think it could help a lot to write about other people in my life as well and help me orient my attitude towards them in a positive manner.

@Starcrossed I guess that's what it all boils down to is burying who you really are. Thanks for helping me come to that epiphany and sharing your thoughts! Have an awesome night ^_^
