It's happened in every US city I've lived in so far too, so it's at least not confined solely to Canada. As for why we do it, it's because driving the bus is a service job. They are doing and providing something for you. Sure, they're getting paid to drive you from one stop to the next, but it's still customary in many parts of the world to thank people for the service they provide you, even if they are getting paid for it

Seems like basic, good manners & respect to me. And I appreciate the bus or cab driver getting me to my destination safely.

We do in Wales. Politeness costs nothing and they got you from A to B in one piece so the least we can do is say thanks

Politeness never hurt anyone.

I always used to say hi and thank them when hopping off...I think dealing with the public like that all day would be very tough
Amylynne · 26-30, F
we do that in portland a lot, it is a hard job!

It's common courtesy.

Mere politeness.
You never know how the folk who serve you are feeling.
Public service is a shit job !
You end up being the focal point of everybody's anger and frustration !
Even if you had nothing to do with their complaint !
So be polite ! Smile ! Say please and thank you !
Doesn't cost anything and you make a tough job a little easier to bare !

@Picklebobble2 exactly! Everybody likes to be treated well.
Picklebobble2 · 56-60, M
@Smileandwave Same goes for the folk in cafes or restaurants or bars. It's hard work and you have to deal with all manner of people who think they're the only person on the planet !
Smileandwave · 46-50, F
@Picklebobble2 yep! Working with people is interesting. People can bring you joy, frustration, anger and great stories. Everyone fits into one of those catagories. Why not be in the nice one! Youll be treated better yourself when they see you again.

Although public, the drivers are still doing us a favor by taking us to where we need to go so it's only polite to say thank you.
Polarbare99 · M
@HelloFriend no it is not a favor they do get paid to drive those busses
HelloFriend · 26-30, M
@Polarbare99 When you order food from a restaurant, surely you say thank you to the waitress for serving you the food you paid for.
SugarPlumxo · 31-35, F
Because it's good manners.
I do. I live in the United States.
PaleandPolluted · 36-40, F
People in the UK do that
LadyWioness · 56-60, F
I do. I'm in the US, and a lot of people do here.
Smileandwave · 46-50, F

to the driver? cuz you always thank people for doing their job?
celine211 · 22-25, F
Its a nice thing to do. Not many people do it here.

SW-User
sometimes i say it idk
Polite is cool. Cucks don't know this or acknowledge it, but it is nonetheless true. Decker drivers in England are no longer aloud to refer to female passengers as "luv". This is the end. My one and only friend. the end... the end of laughter,,,, the end of sunshine...... the end........
