Why do people say thank you when they get off public transit busses?
is this just a Canadian thing or do you people in other countries notice that too?

Mere politeness.
You never know how the folk who serve you are feeling.
Public service is a shit job !
You end up being the focal point of everybody's anger and frustration !
Even if you had nothing to do with their complaint !
So be polite ! Smile ! Say please and thank you !
Doesn't cost anything and you make a tough job a little easier to bare !

@Smileandwave Same goes for the folk in cafes or restaurants or bars. It's hard work and you have to deal with all manner of people who think they're the only person on the planet !

@Picklebobble2 yep! Working with people is interesting. People can bring you joy, frustration, anger and great stories. Everyone fits into one of those catagories. Why not be in the nice one! Youll be treated better yourself when they see you again.
