I only have three blankets to give out, and four people needing them
I only have three of those big black blankets left to give out, and four people needing them. I've passed them up the last three nights, hoping their numbers thin out, but they are sitting out each night.
Temperature is dropping in the low 20°F tomorrow, and will hit that each night for the next week according to my weather forcast.
One of the four is a woman who I am convinced gets some sort of disability pay. But she spends it on cigarettes. She has a jacket as well as a chair. I'm very tempted to give it to the three men and not her, but I already passed her up twice in the past- I didn't have enough for everyone and so gave it very selectively. Now it is colder. I'm still very tempted to basically skip her. I don't like picking who lives or who dies, or who gets frostbite. These blankets are no where rated for long term winter exposure, I just bought them $10 a pop at a black friday sale.
I'm feeling like shit over this. I have my own sleeping bag rated for that temperature ready to go in my van. If I give it up, I don't make it- and nobody gets anything in the future.
I'm really hating myself over this. It's going to be getting really cold on my walk back tomorrow to my van.
I do think I saw the guy I gave the big bag of stuff with the 10°F slwwping back kicked down a door to a abandoned structure nearby- I saw what looked like that sleeping bag on the ground inside. Problem is.... I saw him, meaning he has zero instict for stealth.... not even enough to shut the door behind him. Thst alone stops airflow, allowing you to build up a warm bead of air around your body instead of it being blown away.
Four people, three blankets.
