What's the best place you've traveled to recently (and what made it a good place to visit)?

My boyfriend and I have been bumming around the Yucatan for the past month (specifically the Mexican states of Campeche, Yucatán, and Quintana Roo). I'd been to Mexico before, but never this part. The Yucatan is the safest part of Mexico and the states of Yucatán and Campeche are the only two Mexican states without any travel warnings from the U.S. government. The region is a warm, wet tropical rainforest area with ancient Mayan ruins, small colorful towns, and beautiful beaches with perfectly clear water. Nothing against Cancún, but I did not want to want stay in the big resort area (and I didn't come here for partying or drinking). There's so much more to see outside of the big, commercial tourist zones. It's sad that Mexico has so many problems with violence and kidnappings because there are so many reasons to see explore this country. I'll stick to the safer areas right now, but I hope I can see more of Mexico in the future. I will definitely be back.

Two photos I took in the ancient Mayan site of Calakmul:

Beautiful, I'll plan to visit myself one day.

I was in Cairo, Egypt back in January, I was fortunate to ring in the new year there.
Lots of culture to absorb there, it was great.

@SW-User i am going to Casablanca, Fez, Marrakesh and a few more. My trip to China and thailand was cancelled so I chose Morocco.

@akindheart I think you will like it. Thailand is wonderful, though. I've never been to China, but I have a Chinese friend who wants to visit her relatives there and maybe some day I'll get the chance to see it as well.

That's amazing! I saw Chichen Itza. I have been all over Mexico. Acapulco, Cancun, Cozumel, Mexico City. Puerto Vallarta, Riviera Maya, and loved it. not sure i would go back

last year I spent 6 weeks in the Yucatan, mostly in Bacalar. I just came back from Colombia just a few days ago, I was there for one month. It was ok. I love Cartagena, especially Getsamani area. colonial architecture, cobblestlone, narrow streets, flowers everywhere. amazing place. we spent most of our time near Santa Marta, between walking in the mountains and the jungle some days and other days going to the beach. My favorite place up tp now was Nepal but there was something about Getsemani that made me want to live there. the atmosphere is incredible.

@reflectingmonkey I went to Bacalar as well. I've never been to Colombia, but that sounds amazing, to find a place like that somewhere quite different from where you live and think you could live there.

Right on. I had a friend spend some time in Yucatan recently and he loved it. He's really in to Mayan history so it was like Disneyland.

You’ve travelled some beautiful places. Nice I’m going back home. Haven’t been there in a long time really long so for me it’ll be a big deal. I’ll travel all the time. I just got to stay away from home. I live on the other side of the country but it’s time.

Place is called the Ramona bowl. Besides the view they have all kinds of plays and concerts there.
probably sabine wildlife refuge, just a good range of critters to see.
Got back from Latvia and Estonia Sunday after 7 days
Omg that looks fabulous, wish I was there 😩

I loved scuba diving the freshwater cenotes of Tulum in the Yucatan! I normally dive saltwater/ocean wherever I travel so it was a real amazing treat and so different <3

There is great diving all down the coast, and I think the further down you go the better it gets because there are fewer tourists.

@V00doo I studied abroad in Barcelona (briefly, and also in a few other cities). Barcelona is so frequently crowded with tourists, like Venice, but it's one of the best European cities.
@SW-User It is, but it's stunning.

@onewithshoes Come on now. This was about a person's trip to Yucatan. Not your kink. Don't want to overplay your hand, right dude?
