How Many States You Been Too?

I live in Oregon and have only been to two states, California a few times and Washington state, only once.

Before I answer, does simply driving through a state and not stopping or spending any time there count? Also, what if I do stop for gas or a hotel but still don’t spend time there aside from that?

So that’s at least 23. I say “at least” because I’m pretty sure I’ve driven through other states to get to some of the others, but I don’t recall which ones.
