Do you see getting lost as a adventure?

See I hate the GPS and refuse to use them. From local travel to across county.

I love paper maps and sometimes you get lost. Just like in the old days.

To me getting lost is seeing new things and meeting new people.

Modern technology ruined the simple way of life

You see and learn so much more when you plan your own route and the journey is not always flawless.

Love that answer

I like GPS because it allows to catch traffic jams up ahead so I can redirect in time should I need to. That’s been a huge feature on road trips for me.

But I do love getting lost in a sense. Like, driving with no destination in mind to discover new sights I wouldn’t have caught otherwise. New discoveries like that brings lovely tingles to the bored mind and sometimes stagnant soul.
@PerfectionOfTheHeart Got lost around Lexington, KY few years back when my phone ran out of juice .. drove about 10 miles through horse farm country .. no better detour since

I used to work a job that required a GPS back before I had a phone I could use for navigation. Some of those dedicated GPS units weren’t always up to date, so I often had to figure things out the old-fashioned way, asking around, usually at filling stations since I worked nights, how to get from one place to another. That’s how I got around, and honestly, it was pretty fun.
Yes.
I do it a lot.
Getting lost needed a positive bent.
Also, it is! Ive seen so many things I never would have had I not been so directionally clueless.

Honesty all jokes aside. The paper map has always been at my side. I never fully trusted digital technology and we still dont have a cellphone either
@HumanEarth As digital tech now creates the printed tech, I don't mind trusting the digital. Does it have flaws? yes. But not understanding it by avoiding it wont change the hurt it will one day bring about, and more so if you dont know what it is truly capable of. So, where I understand your desire to not use it, not knowing its capabilities and frailties is also an issue. I have a father who feels the same way. It's not wrong, but it is very limiting. Plus, I find people who dont use much tech also have some wild ideas about it that are not based in reality. They tend to be easier to manipulate into believing outlandish things, and that worries me for them. Not that they dont trust tech but that in their distrust they are being taken advantage of.

I believe that to

Like if an emp plause hits the earth and wipes all electronics.

Everyone is screwed. We have grown to dependent on digital technology and it can lead us to extinction.

Just talking
It depends on circumstances. A couple "detours" brought wonderful surprises .. a couple brought real potential danger .. most were just some quick turn arounds or extra stretches to get back on track.

I love to get lost for fun.I get bored driving the same roads.

I have a general idea if where cities, main roads, mountains, bays, rivers, and states are. For example, if I get lost in Pennsylvania all I do is drive south. Eventually I was will get home to Maryland!

I try to navigate using the car clock and the sun.

I only use Google Maps and GPS if I get stuck in a winding subdivision, hit a dead end, or start going in circles.

Thats what a good 4X 4 truck good for. Plow though yards and fences

@HumanEarth

I do not want to trespass.

Lots of Trump flags. I do not want to get shot.

I like a paper map too. I like to see the big picture. A GPS doesn’t do the well.
BlobbyMcBlobface · 56-60, M
I always carry a gps on hikes for emergencies but prefer map and compass. It's much more fun to work things out the old way than to have a digital screen do it for me
SilverF0x · 46-50, M
Well, the humble paper map is technology before phones made digital versions available in every palm

Getting lost can be an adventure but more often than not I’m trying to reach my destination on time
HumanEarth · F
Funny thing is, millions of commercial drivers made to their drop offs on time long before the GPS
SilverF0x · 46-50, M
@HumanEarth Sure. The world kept spinning long before anything was invented.
Doesn’t make GPS a bad thing
Zaphod42 · 51-55, M
As my dad used to say, “‘Exploring’ means never having to admit you’re lost” 😂
HumanEarth · F
My father in-law used to say. I'm not lost, I'm just going a different way
WoWgirll · 36-40, F
No I would be scared
HumanEarth · F
Really, but were the same generation
ArtieKat · M
It's fine if you have unlimited time on your hands but if you're working to a schedule then GPS wins every time.
faery · F
No, I'm too much of control-freak for getting lost. Just going someplace new is adventure enough for me.
SlippingAway · 46-50, F
I do as long as I have adequate gas
HumanEarth · F
Thats why I always carry 10 gallons of full gas can on road trips. For that unexpected stuff that happens.
SlippingAway · 46-50, F
@HumanEarth Smart
WoWgirll · 36-40, F
Im more worried about GSP honestly 🤣 of the two absolutely
