No. I hate icy cold weather and I'm not a fan of heights. I'll stick to the Colorado mountains where I can sit inside by the fire, sipping a drink, while watching the pretty snow and people having fun outside.
AthrillatheHunt · 56-60, M
@exexec you can drive to Evan’s peak too . Drive to 11000 foot elevation is crazy. Evan’s peak is a bucket list drive for me.
I walked up the steps of the Washington monument in the mid sixties as a kid. That was hard work I ain't climbing no damn mountain. Can drive to the summit of the ones I care to visit. that damn thing is cold and covered in snow hell no
TheHammer · M
Yes. That would pretty awesome. Climbing it I mean.

I personally know someone who successfully climbed it.
Would I want to? I loved the mountains and I’m planning to climb one in Portugal one day. It’s at 7700 feet elevation.
But no, I’m not that ambitious to plan for Mt Everest.

@CookieCrumbs I forgot that I actually want to climb Mt Shasta. Or I did, for a day or two...
Elessar · 31-35, M
I start feeling like I'm low on oxygen at 3000m, no chance I'd get to 8848 alive 😬
bijouxbroussard · F
No. I’m afraid of heights and so are most of my friends.
Gibbon · 70-79, M
Thanks for BC. I did get to view directly the various monument stones placed in the wall at each stair landing. Something that hasn't been possible since 1976 when the stairs were closed to the public.

Nah. I'd probably run into too many preppies on the way.
GoFish · 41-45, F

@GoFish I understand that the Nepalese government are implementing stricter guidelines and rules for cleaning up and litter of climbers. But imagine thousands of kilos tams of human waste that doesn’t decompose and infiltrates the water systems. At the same time it brings in a lot of money for the country and the sherpas alike. I just get irked because people are so casual about it and and say things like “yeah it would be cool to climb it” without realistically considering what it’s about.
GoFish · 41-45, F
@InterdimensionalSideEye oh i see .. maybe they need to put proper bathrooms then
meggie · F
@InterdimensionalSideEye and dead bodies which appsrently are used as markers

nudistsueaz · 61-69, F
Hmm, no I haven't.
4thdimensiondream · 70-79, M
No way but I would love to have a chat about it. Three things I will never do are jump out of a plane, scuba diving, and climb a mountain for real. There’s another crazy one where you jump off mountain and basically fly down only a few feet off ground head first. I enjoy living too much for any of these thrills.
meggie · F
@4thdimensiondream i don't know how they do it. I'd suffer a heart attack.
craig7 · 70-79, M
No.Some years ago I went up to the summits of a couple of mountains in Switzerland, one by cable-car,and another by a cog-wheel railway. I've never wanted to climb any mountains however.
nobodyishome · 31-35, F
@craig7 I don't know if I want to live in the mountains anymore. The Wild is scary
Birdbox1986 · 31-35, F
No they’d be dead
Not me but I find it fascinating to read about, like Jon Krakauer’s Into Thin Air.
Dangerous journey to be sure. One thing I never realized is that way more people die on the descent from the mountain than the ascent up the mountain.

@OlderSometimesWiser yes i was reading about this American lady, who died on the descent: https://nepalmotherhousetreks.com/blog/everest-sleeping-beauty
JoyfulSilence · 51-55, M
Nope.
If I cannot drive there, or at least close enough, I am not going there!

No it never crossed my mind. You're basically hiking up out of the earths atmosphere. Id take a job on the moon base if they build it. If I'm going to be in that kind of environment it sounds more interesting.
WillaKissing · 61-69, M
As a Youth I wanted too. As a 61-year-old that has done some amazing things around the world already, I can say I pass on that idea now.
And No, I do not know anyone who has tried.

@WillaKissing i walked up both Ben Nevis and Snowdon years ago. I think that's enough for me.

meggie · F
@InterdimensionalSideEye that is sadly true. Some do it for charity and the costs come out of the donations and the little that is left gets donated.
Selah ·
No part of that is appealing to me
SirLirkALot · 46-50, M
not me, no interest
