Not if your body shape suits it.

ScreamingFox · 41-45, F
Never too old! I live at the beach and I see all kinds of bodies in bikinis. I think it's about getting sun on your skin and we can all use that.
HumanEarth · F
No, I'm the same age and I wear one all the time.

Jen, I have "I don't duck" syndrome..... At our age we earn are right to wear what the hell we want. We may not be no 20 year olds, but we can scare them. Because we were raised by our parents
Shytoshow · 61-69, M
@HumanEarth fantastic

NO! Age has nothing to do with wearing a bikini. You can be too heavy to wear a bikini but never too old. Bikinis were never designed to be worn by obese women which is why they're not made in extra-large, plus-plus sizes.

My mom is 49 years old and her and I wear very durable polyester Speedo 'sports' bikinis when we work together in her garden. Sports bikinis are for active wear out of the water, such as beach volleyball where they take a lot of physical abuse. When I was a teenager, I wore a sports bikini around our farm in summer instead of shorts. Tough and durable and they wear like iron.

My grandmother in Norway is 68 years old and she wears a bikini every single day that she goes walking on the public beach where she lives.
@swirlie How much does a silk bikini cost ?
swirlie · 31-35
@FreeSpirit1

A pure silk bikini that is hand-made, is an experience of itself during the whole process. The first one I had made for myself was 8 years ago and was made by a female business friend of mine and her two apprentice assistants in Oslo Norway, whom I helped get set up in business. Her and I first met at an entrepreneurial business women's conference in Sweden where I was invited to attend as a guest speaker. Afterwards, we all mingled in a crowded auditorium where she gave me her hand-made business card and told me of her business plan but so far had no business to speak of!

She is self-employed and now owns an old traditional Scandinavian ladies underwear shop which specializes in the needs of very petite, very thin women as well as very slender, very tall women, both of whom cannot find clothes to fit right off the rack in a store.

Having said that, any pair of denim jeans I ever bought, had to be taken straight home to my mom before I even washed them, where she'd completely dismantle every seam and custom-tailor each pair of jeans I owned to fit my exact shape, which she loves doing because she's a seamstress as previously mentioned.

My first silk bikini was made of pure silk that was imported from Ceylon which is an island in southern India. Ceylon is now called Sri Lanka. The cost 8 years ago for that silk bikini was $900 in US Dollars which included the labor of 2 young apprentice seamstresses plus my friend. The cost today is double that, coming in at about $1800 for that exact same bikini style, hand-made from pure silk.

Where the cost is rationalized is primarily in the labor and specialized nylon stitching that must be used, because it is made without a liner which makes the sewing and stitching a hand-made necessity, as opposed to machine-stitching using a liner to fasten everything to on the inside. That cost by the way, does not include my flight to get over there in the first place!

Because they are pure silk, you can see right through them if the silk is left in it's natural state. To make a bikini without a liner requires some very creative perspective, or not so creative depending on the look you're trying to achieve!

This is done using optical illusions created by pastel pattern design using silk dyes. The illusion of pattern design works to distract the eye from noticing what's hidden behind the silk on the inside, which is part of the creative process that is done by Artisan of each silk bikini that is made in her shop!

@swirlie How really wonderful
Would love to see you wearing it!
You must know ladies won’t be the only ones weighing in… I’ve alway maintained that bikinis’ sole reason for existence is to show skin; as swimwear they’re rather impractical. So if you’re comfortable showing skin, age doesn’t really matter.
Jenny1234 · 56-60, F
@bijouxbroussard of course but it helped me get more women to answer the question and I think it also helped with receiving a little bit more respectful comments from the males that did answer
forestgirl · 46-50, F
I still do! Go for it and enjoy it
SageWanderer · 70-79, M
The only thing you shouldn’t wear is other peoples opinion. If you’re comfortable wearing a bikini, do it!
