I travel to Brazil regularly. I have never had a problem. I don't go to certain areas by myself. Like any country, Brazil has some bad spots, even in the good areas. We have family there and they are usually with us. I didn't like Rio when I stayed there. I usually go to Balneario Camboriu. Nice beaches, friendly people and good food.

Superficially speaking? There's a lot of crime there and it is risky for travelers.
On a much deeper level? I'd love to go. The culture seems so vibrant and I'm a big fan of bossa nova. Jobim is a love of mine. I'd love to go someday before i pass on.

The first World Cup I followed was Mexico 1970 where the amazing Brazillian team with Pele , Jahrzino, Tostao , Gerson, Revelino , Carlos Alberto .
A team of magicians.

Also the 1982 squad with Zicco and Socrates was amazing
