What part of travelling do you like most and dislike most?

For me the worst part of travelling is the anxiety I get the hours leading up until i leave my house to go to the airport, the check in process, and the plane taking off. my anxiety gets so bad that I actually make myself ill. And tonight I’m flying so this morning was the first time that I went to the doctor to get something and he gave me 3 lorazepam.

The part I like the best about travelling is sitting on the beach and going to restaurants all day every day

Ì don't like the second half of my holidays they literally go twice as fast as the first half. A Holiday Time-Continuum of another dimension.
Stephie · F
The absolute best part of any holiday and travel is when I am coming home, turn this key in the lock and see my 4 walls and everything that I have been missing while away.

There is no better feeling than when you return home and you are glad you survived that holiday.

Home, sweet home.

@Stephie My wife and I live in Southern Florida. We are blessed to have a pool. Fortunately this far south it is open all year long. I'll post a picture. As for traveling and laundry read my reply.

Stephie · F
@Musicman That's nice and with a pool like that, who needs to go on a holiday. With such a setting, no laundry to do obviously
Musicman · 61-69, M
@Stephie There is always a little laundry, but nothing big and definitely nothing pressing.

Always the night before leaving I get too excited to rest or sleep, not anxious. I always drive now though, too many plane rides when I was in the Army to enjoy air travel these days especially with all the check points in airports and having PTSD and not liking stranger touching me or going through my bags.

The traveling/driving and stopping and seeing things along the way that catch my interests making all kinds of new adventures for me and meeting new people are my favorites.
WillaKissing · 56-60, M
@Musicman With the economy slow. Also waiting on a VA decision that could change the income and get it done quickly. Prayers on that please.
Musicman · 61-69, M
@WillaKissing You can always count on me for prayer 🙏🙏🙏
WillaKissing · 56-60, M
@Musicman I knew that and still thank you kindly!
As the saying goes, it's the journey, not the destination.
That's what I love about trips - the voyage, and the great discoveries along the way.

Take roadtrips for example. With their changing landscapes, roadsigns, and unique stops along the interstate.

Flying isn't everybody's cup of tea. But there's grace and beauty in harnessing all that speed and power. Crossing continents by leaps and bounds. An exciting quest.

The end of a trip, coming home, is always the hardest part.

Flying is by no means the only way to travel.

The few flights I have taken were within the UK and for work purposes, but I enjoyed the flight itself, lasting roughly an hour. The drive to the airport and long, tedious wait and over-priced refreshments within the airport, were a drag.

I enjoy rail travel provided I have a reasonably comfortable seat and view out of the window - some trains now are very cramped and some services can be very crowded. Waiting for a train can be tedious, and delays worrying if the journey will include a connection to another service. (The last delay affecting my service was caused by some useless louts having placed an obstruction on the track. Among the biggest causes of delays on Britain's railways is trespassing, itself illegal, but including trespassing for criminal intent and suicide.)

Driving? Whether a pleasure or pain depends on the journey and conditions. On one journey I make sometimes, I avoid well over a hundred miles of very busy motorway by a longer, slower but far more pleasant detour on the ordinary roads.

Travelling long term, my worst thing is running low on resources, my best thing is moving forward trusting 🌷
gpj1198 · M
I like to make the journey a part of my holiday, so I always make sure I’m at the airport really early, I always make time to sit and have a meal before the flight, I just chill out and take it in my stride. I’ve been lucky so far, only one cancellation and one 19 hour delay in 50 years of travelling (that’s put the jinx on future trips). I make the travelling a part of the holiday, although I agree, the best bit is being there….

Edinburgh airport. World leaders at dreaming up new ways to cause delays.
scorpiolovedeep · 51-55, M
I get that too anxiety.

I am quick off the blocks but my family is always ready at the last minute.
Stresses me out.

I fly via Singapore's Changi Airport which is so huge and always something exciting. The stop over is fantastic.

Totally agree.
Life should be peaceful and relaxed.
Jenny1234 · 56-60, F
@scorpiolovedeep I’ve heard about the airport in Singapore! My daughter has travelled in & out of there many times and sent me videos. It’s spectacular

I hate doing overnights in planes . I love seeing new places.

Paying for it
meggie · F
I am very organised and ready way in advance. My bf is the opposite and always running late which stresses me out. When we finally do arrive, I love exploring new places
sarabee1995 · 26-30, F
I love seeing new places, experiencing new cultures, tasting new foods... Most of all just immersing myself in the mosaic that is humanity. 🙂
zonavar68 · 56-60, M
Traveling. I only do it for work.no planes thanks.

Travel for vacations is unaffordable now i have a mortgage.
nedkelly · 61-69, M
I have to wait 36 hours for my flight from Japan to Australia due to excessive price for airline tickets
fun4us2b · M
I used to get that too - but finally talked myself out of it by reminding myself how the last time, it was OK....
I know a few people who do the same before traveling. The worse part for me is coming home. Lol
calicuz · 56-60, M
The only parts of vacation I don't like is going through security, waiting in line to board the plane, finding an empty overhead for my carryon, and the exiting of the plane for all the same reasons.
The rest I love though, including walking through the airport looking for my gate, smelling all the great food along the way, I even don't mind sitting there "people watching" as I wait for the boarding call.
Northwest · M
For years, when I was unattached, and traveling all over the world, I couldn't wait to "hit the road". It was the excitement that came with traveling the world, and thanks to my job, I did it "first class", flights, hotels, etc.

Now, I mostly hate airports, delays and some travelers. But I love what I expect to experience when I get to my destination: family and friends.

Getting home
Musicman · 61-69, M
@BEENOV There is definitely something to be said about coming home. 😊
BEENOV · M
@Musicman absolutely man. Sleeping in my own bed 🛏
Musicman · 61-69, M
@BEENOV We have a motorhome so I am still sleeping in my own bed, but home is just home. All of our favorite stuff is here.

Arriving at the destination 🙂

All the meds ending in “pam” just aren’t good for you over time. Have you tried just eating a gummy when you get to the airport?

I’m not big on crowds. I’ll take a gummy just before going into the Boston Garden to watch a Celts game, as an example. For me, it takes all the anxiety away.
CrazyMusicLover · 31-35
I hate planning, booking, paying, the whole process at the airport or stations and spending time in enclosed space with other people.

I love a change of scenery, just seeing new places or places where I haven't been for years and check how they changed. I like nice hotels too. 😌

I love flying, love seeing new places, love seeing very old places, love adventure, love getting to live and getting a break from some of my responsibilities.

Can’t wait to do more!
JimboSaturn · 56-60, M
Same, hate the airport check in and flight delays etc.. Also hate changing planes at the airport.
BeJeweled · 61-69, F
We never go on airplanes, just travel by car where you can go at your own pace. The part I hate is the last day driving home because you dont want it to end then doing laundry when you get back.🫤
being · 36-40, F
Wonderful 😊 you'll get over the sickness soon... I'm sorry you're having to go through that.. take pauses to simply breathe..
I don't get anxiety but the checkin and flight can be a pain, especially if you live with a certain someone who's always last minute 🙄

But the last paragraph in your post is why it's all worth it.

On a positive I enjoy the flight as I am a bit of an aviation nerd 🤭

Airports and airplane. The rest is fun.
Enjoying new experiences with someone special.
Fertilization · 36-40, F
That anxiety sounds familiar.

I hate airports and going through security etc ...

My favorite part of traveling is just the hotel stuff. Being somewhere different. Sometimes the intensity of going through the airport, getting ready to fly if I'm flying. I don't really like domestic flying while I'm in the air all that much though cause it's so cramped and feels like riding a bus. Overnight flying to a different country I like more though.
So you need sedatives to go on holiday?

...thats kinda ironic 😂

I hate the whole getting to the destination and then getting home. I like the part when I am there lol.
zonavar68 · 56-60, M
@iamonfire696 It's funny because if I do travel, the journey to/from (remember I don't usually do air) is the best part. I am not attracted to exotic/romantic/fancy destinations.
iamonfire696 · 41-45, F
@zonavar68 yah I am talking about going gif hot holidays. I hate all the driving and flying part. I hate it all.

You like driving far?
Musicman · 61-69, M
I absolutely love traveling. My wife and I have a motorhome. I start about a week in advance. Since it is a rolling condo on wheels it has to be cleaned. The bed sheets washed and the bed remade. Then I do the laundry and we pick out what clothes we want to take. Depending on where we are going and how long we will be gone for determines what we take. So far our longest road trip has been two months. For that we needed warm and cold weather clothes along with something nice in case we go out. Once we are all loaded I close up the house. We get a goodnight sleep and we leave in the morning. Of course our kitty comes with us. I almost forgot. Our motorhome has a full size residential refrigerator so on the morning we leave we have to transfer the contents of the refrigerator to the refrigerator in the motorhome. Then we are off. My wife has to use the bathroom a lot. With the motorhome she can use the bathroom while I drive. We have our own space everywhere we go. I definitely know who slept in the bed last and when the sheets were changed last. We always have a clean bathroom and a full kitchen with us. There is no lugging suitcases in and out of hotels. We tow our car behind us. When we get somewhere we have it to drive around and explore in. We even have our own washer and dryer for doing laundry. We are really quite self sufficient. 🙂

On Amtrak you see places you'll never see feom the air or the road.
